Arrghh Mateys!! {sm4}{sm3}

Alright, pretty cheesy- so my family took a long week in the Boston area- really wonderful area- would highly recommend it to anyone- GO BRUINS!! {sm4}

Anyway, swung by Salem yesterday and went to the Pirate musem- campy little place with actual historical artifacts coupled with Disney like displays- a lot of fun and worth the price.

Anyway, just curious if anyone on the board enjoys reading about the Pirates of old and does any research in this interesting niche of Americana. I kind of feel like the "Pirates" movies have sort of moved it out of the realm of academia into entertainment but there are all sorts of interesting characters out there to read about-

anyway, anyone got any stories??

Well there's at least one other idiot here! I've always loved pirate art, stories, books and figures. I've painted a few pirate figures and have the entire Conte series.

Sign me up, Matey!! Arrrghh.

Did quite a bit of reading about Pirates in my younger years. Always thought the stories were great, especially Teach vs Maynard, Kidd, Morgan, and such. Will still watch docs about them but haven't read much in a long time. -- Al

My son has a 3 foot long fully rigged wood pirate ship in his room, crewed by Conte pirates, parrots, and even rats.

Tom Dubel is a huge pirate fan.

So no, you are not alone.:wink2:

I've always like pirate movies and bookks.Loved Captain Blood with Errol Flynn.Loved POTC,just went a couple of weeks ago and saw the new one.Thought it was better than the second and third one.A fifth one is in the works.

Flynn was one of my favorites. Loved Captain Blood and The Sea Hawk. He was the best for the swashbuckling sort of movies. I always liked it when Flynn and Rathbone worked together. -- Al

The family legend on my mother's side is that Henry Morgan is a relative somehow. He was of course a "privateer." There was some small time piracy a few hundred yards from my house down on the Annisquam River. Mostly a few pirates in small craft jumping fishermen in the early 1700s. It's possible a 1700s era female skeleton found about 20 years back in a cellar near the Annisquam was a pirate victim.

I couldn't think of the Sea Hawk's title,memory fading fast.{sm3}I remember Rathbone played a French pirate and Flynn was a Scottish rebel in exile.Flynn killed him on the beach.Can't remember the title of that one either.{eek3}Flynn was great in the swashbucklers.

That's Captain Blood. Flynn was a doctor (former soldier) who helped a wounded man on the wrong side of the Monmouth Rebellion. Good old Flynn! I read his book.

I enjoy pirate movies as others do. i.e. Errol Flynn... I've read a few books on real pirates... but tend not to be very interested in reality (too grim)... I'll take the Hollywood version this time. :)

As in the Pittsburgh Pirates right?? ^&confuse

The Pirates of the Carribean . . . ^&grin:wink2:

Well, you are both right!!!!!!!!!!!

I do love me pirates. I think I am up to a fleet now, I believe the only major vessel I am missing is the Ron Barszo Pirate Ship playset. I have just about every pirate boat I have found that goes from 25mm to 1/32 54mm scale. I really am still irked that Conte never made their boat appear.

I also have bought just about every pirate miniature I have found, one day I need to line them up for a photo.

The only thing I parted with were the Disney Action figures and that I am still missing.

I know, its a disease, forgot to mention the probably near 100 books on the subject.

Yes Scott ,It was Captain Blood but he was Irish I believe in that but there was a movie he did when he was older and played a Scottish nobleman who turned to piracy.I'll find out.

I did a bit of privateer research connected to 1812 and XYZ, and a bit about the Templar pirates.
