The "making of" the Pacific on HBO (1 Viewer)

Just give it a chance to get rolling. It will be every bit as good as BoB. I happen to have liked the first episode a great deal and I like the idea of following just the three main characters, too. I thought the Guadalcanal scenes were very well done, especially the Alligator Creek battle. Wait for Basilone's exploits in the upcoming episodes. TRL did an outstanding job on Guadalcanal and so will this series. -- lancer

People are too inpatient anymore, if something doesn't knock you out of their chair in the first 3 minutes it's not very good.I know people who cuss the microwave saying it's not fast enough.Sit back and enjoy.

Lancer and Marco are right, perfection takes time. The only thing I wish they hadn't left out was Tarawa, but maybe that will come in the future from them or someone else? The defence of Henderson Field was keypoint IN ALL DIRECTIONS, and the story will evolve on Guadalcanal around that main theme..........Stryker

Saw the 1st episode last night on a cable channel we have here called AXN. IMHO I liked Band of Brother's 1st episode better, I enjoyed the training/building up episode, this one looked like a too hurried descent into action, very little on characters, etc... But the battle scenes looked awesome and I'll try not to miss the next one, for sure. It's early days and we should really judge it beyond any comparisons with BoB.

To be really honest about all this, I really don't think Spielberg & Hanks care about what SOME people may think of the series in general. They spent 200 million, made the biggest tv series ever attempted, and are glad they did it. They made it for the Marines and that's good enough for us..............Stryker

I for once will surely try to get it on DVD at a later moment, even if it doesn't turn out to be a masterpiece it'll still interest me light years beyond the normal TV crap...

I agree 100% Paulo................Stryker

Have to admit I wasn't a big fan of BOB either. Probably because of the involvement of Stephen Ambrose who was a kook. It came off like a Reader's Digest version of WWII. Didn't add much.

For those of you that are wondering why some battles were shot in the Pacific and others were not mentioned, like unfortunately Tarawa, the story follows members of the First marine Division and the campaigns they participated in. The First did not land in Iwo Jima, but Basilone was transferred, by his own request after being stateside, and he ended up in the 5th marine Division I think. Obviously, Spielberg/Hanks had to follow him and that is why Iwo is shown. I hope someday that someone will do Tarawa the justice that it deserves.............Stryker

Combat, not trying to stir up ---- but what do you mean by stateing Ambrose was a kook?
I,ve enjoyed reading several of his WW2 books and wasen,t he instrumental in the DDay museum in New Orleans?
Again I,m just curious as to where you got that impression.
As I posted about Canadien Samuri, if you did not like BOB, then what film are series did you like?

So far so good, it went bye to fast, at least people will get a little taste of what the Pacific theatre was all about. I think it is going to get better and better, just like BOB.:)

I can't take this one episode at a time. I wish I had the guts to hold off until the series was finished and then watch the whole thing straight trough

Now that was a great episode, about 50 times better than the first. That Sergeant getting 4rd degree burns moving the red hot machine gun to hold the position, then running out into no man's land to clear the field of fire was just amazing. And the hand to hand combat in the dark. The privation the Marines suffered. They got this one right.

Yes this one was excellent. That's two in a row for me.Looks like no combat in the next one.

Great episode. The confusion of the night fighting is well conveyed. Loved the scene where the Marines raided the Army stores. The isolation of the fighting men on those far flung islands is really brought home. Well done. -- Al

LOL, you guys are killing me. I've recorded it since my wife and I are watching the Healthcare vote on FOX.

It isn't pretty either.
