Saw this with the better half.

Private eye types Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling get mixed up in finding a female who knows too much. A few dead bodies in the process although no excessive violence.

Crowe is the straight man with the dry humour and Gosling does the more physical comedy.

Not a blockbuster but an enjoyable movie with some very funny bits and then some sudden unusual twists.

Wife enjoyed it even though says not a Crowe fan.

Enjoyed it enough that would like to see them do another.

It received tepid reviews, which didn't surprise me as it was overhyped. One to miss.

Ticket sales are far short of production costs. You don't need to see it to know that it is a box office flop.

I must remember in the future to try not to enjoy movies based on my own opinion but on the basis of reviews I have not read and the comments of others who have not seen the movie (made after I have actually seen it).

Silly me.{sm2}

A few of the lads from work saw it over the weekend and said it was a great laugh and well worth seeing. I'm hoping to catch it with the Mrs's sometime during the next couple of weeks.

I'm not a big fan of movie reviews myself and tend to ignore them. I've been to plenty of flicks over the years that have rated badly, but I've ended up thoroughly enjoying them.

Seen plenty of movies that received poor reviews, had poor box office and were commented on by know nothings who hadn't seen them, which were great pics......

He died in 2013 but if you like a good movie review read go to Roger Ebert's site. I see other reviewers contribute to it now but Roger was always worth a read even if I disagreed with his assessment. One or two of his reviews were just magnificent. I left wishing I could write like that. One of the points that he made with some regularity was that movies need to be judged on what they attempt to achieve rather than what a reviewer would like to have seen made. My wife and I watched a Pierce Brosnan movie one evening last week. It was called 'The Love Punch'. It was at the end of a long, long week after a couple of months of sustained stress at work. We bought fish and chips, retired to the movie room and just sat back and let this movie wash over us. It was the perfect movie - a bit silly, undemanding and did not require much engagement. In fact, in parts it was ordinary but it served its purpose. In any case, better than any reality TV show ever made ... except American Pickers. That is pretty good!

If Australians and Kiwis relied on return on production costs and success in the USA market none of us would have watched Russell Crowe's movie about Gallipoli, The Water Diviner. However I thought it was a movie that deserved more promotion and success overseas than it apparently got. Good cast, good action scenes, a love story, fathers love for his sons etc and managed to portray the enemy (the Turks) in a good light.

I saw the previews when I went to the movies last Sunday and it seems like an enjoyable movie. I have also seen movies that were given poor reviews but I ended up enjoying the movies a lot more than so called block busters.
