I wish Nolan was not directing this movie as he always plays with timelines. I rarely enjoy his movies. He has also caused controversy with some of his casting choices such as Lupita Nyongo as Helen of Troy. Some argue that how you can you cast her as Helen is white. This is what my son believes. To me it’s just a movie and one man’s interpretation of an epic by Homer.

I think we're all aware that big budget movies have to have their virtue signaling castings, and everyone is expected to swallow it whole in the ongoing falsehoods ideology.
Just like the recent Cleopatra casting, which had Egyptians in an uproar, for trying to mislead.
Why oh why do they have to do this. It wouldn't be acceptable say, as example, if Brad Pitt played Nelson Mandela, would it !?
All these projects achieve in the end is for them to be flops, and not be the huge money makers, the backers had thought they'd be !

One of the panel members of that hard hitting news show The View/Hostin said she taught Greek Mythology and it has a strong African aspect to it/it's possible Helen of Troy was black.

Ok then; her word is gospel, so let's all just go along with it then.

That trailer looks horrible; shocked Matt Damon did not break out his Boston accent for his role.

The online commentary on this movie is robust on any topic you wish to find. Casting occupies a lot of the commentary but so does the translation used by Nolan. He’s using the Emily Wilson translation rather than more standard ones. Her translation is considered more in the vernacular, less complicated, easier to read. Some complain about it, some love it. A few years ago I read it and liked it but I have not read others like Feagles so I have no point of comparison.

Well, having now watched and reacquainted myself with the Kirk Douglas version, I won't bother with the new one.

Cleopatra was actually of Greek descent. It is being found the the people of Europe/Middle East of long ago were darker than what we were taught to believe.

Let's face it: all the versions are pretty cheesy! The '97 miniseries is my favorite but still doesn't quite follow the original plot. Kirk is good in the 60's version. Otherwise, Homer is the go-to here for a good story.
