You have to be kidding me! Is this a soap opera or what? I can't tell if I'm watching a WWII Epic about the Marines........or days of our lives.
Ok, once again......it has to get better
Agreed-reminded me of that Ben Affleck Pearl Harbor romantic nightmare film. It did make me want to go visit Melbourne though!

Tom Hanks is lucky most of the old Marines are in their 80's or they might be
inclined to inform him what it was really like.
One of my buddies Dad fought on Tarawa, he is gone now but he was a real
two fisted fellow we all admired in High School.
I can assure you he spent his time terrorizing the Japs......not the Australian
ladies.
After hearing about their treck to the beach, and action on Tarawa I believe
it is a story that needs to be told. I can still remember him telling us when
they were through their wasn't a tree left intact on the entire island.

You guys are killing me. What do you think; life of a Marine is all blood and guts?
I remember a great movie depicting a similar theme. That movie was called “Battle Cry” made in the 1955 it was pretty darn good too. What did you expect from a bunch of young marines cooped up for awhile between battles and away from home?
You guys didn’t think it was all about killing for 10 straight weeks without any character development did you? Oh wait, “Band of Brothers” didn’t need any of this soap opera crap … hey guys; it was a different book(s). By the way, is Band of Brothers the standard in which all other such production will be compared too? Well then, I guess a whole lot of you are going to bite disappointed with any WWII productions in the future.
Man, you guys are a tough crowd. Well for me, I’ll just sit back and enjoy yet another find WWII depiction from the great collaboration of Spielberg and Hanks.

I don't get this quote by Tom Hanks? Why would he say this? Racism, really????? I may be a little behind on my knowledge of the Pacific but as I recall we didn't go to war because the way the Japs looked, talked and lived their lives.

The Japanese culture is perhaps the most racist culture on earth. Is it possible that Hanks was referring to their racism rather than ours? Not that we can be exhonorated of racism . . . there was the little matter of U.S. citizens of Japanese descent being put in camps.

My problem with the series so far is LACK of character development.
And as far as comparing it to BOB, some claimed this was going to be better than BOB and would make the ETO look like "Bozo's circus" or some other such nonsense.
Three episodes into BOB, we had the nightime Normandy drops, the attack on the gun positions, the attack on Carentan and the counterattack by the Germans shortly thereafter.
Three episodes into The Pacific, we've had waves of Japanese charging headlong into fixed machine gun positions and Marines getting dumped by Aussie lasses and saying "You're dumping me because you think I'm going to get killed".........................ok then.
And yes, sorry to report but SPR and BOB are the gold standards by which all future war movies will be measured up against.
Just like The Godfather, Goodfellas and the Sopranos are for Mob movies/series.
That said, I predict that once "Sledgehammers" character gets fully involved, things are going to get very intense if the producers get it right, including a couple of action packed landings and some heavy duty daytime combat, "Sledgehammer" was involved in some pretty brutal combat ....................

Very true, but before I shed a tear I will recall the brave soldiers that
endured the "Baatan Death March". 72,000 started on that 60 mile march with
little water and no food for 5 to 6 days. 54,000 arrived.
After thinking about their treatment, I have nothing left.

I really enjoyed "Band of Brothrs", bought all the books, and I really looked
forward to this series. I really hope it comes alive and brings us the same
kind of living history we experienced with "Easy Company"

I TOO will side with Carlos. One of the most boring episodes of all time was the training one in BOB. Perhaps EASY COMPANY thought it was quite unusual to take off running after a meal? Was this what the real life men wanted the viewers to think or what? I realize we are talking about the army here, but in the Marine Corps, that is hardly a hardship or UNUSUAL.........Stryker

Have not seen any of this new series, but as for BoB, I actually enjoyed this episode. It made sense in the context of the overall story, plus the antics of the martinet (Schwimmer's character) were very entertaining.

The series is trying to show all aspects of the Marines life. I'm sure every time they had leave, they were party animals. Just look what they had to go through, you could be dead at any moment. They were battleing their morals as well as the Japs, and I beleave as the episode showed, the Aussie's understood what they did, and what they were doing for them. They were life takers, and heartbreakers, that's a Marines life.
