US Third Fleet provides support for amphibious landings at Lingayen Gulf, Luzon, Philippines on 9 January 1945.

USS Iowa in Measure 32 camouflage.

The Ticonderoga provides Combat Air Patrol and Close Air Support for the landings.

The light carrier San Jacinto adds her air group to the battle.

Hellcats fly top cover for the fleet.

Diorama note: I hope to create a series of additional scenes from the Pacific War in future postings. Who knows an interesting fact concerning the San Jacinto in WWII? Chris

A TBM-3E Avenger attacks a fleeing Imperial Japanese Maru.

And scores a torpedo hit amidships.

LCVPs approach the target beach with destroyers providing close gun support.

Motor torpedo boats screen the landings.

Love it! I particularly like the use of the aircraft and the torpedo strike.

Very well done Chris, love the aircraft flying overhead and the torpedo slamming into the ship! The whole scene looks like an epic battle! {bravo}}

Chris,
Something different and they look great on the "open sea".

I wonder if you can get HMAS Australia or a County Class Heavy Cruiser in that scale ?{sm4}

You have your own Pacific fleet there....something nice and different and interesting....the attack transport reminded me of the movie...Away All Boats...with Jeff Chandler and George Nader....darn good navy movie...would love to see it again...TomB

Hi Chris,

Another excellent naval display. The "torpedo in the water" setup is very well done. The USS Iowa stands out for me. I built the Revell model of this ship when I was a teen.

The Iowa class battleships were very impressive capital ships with a long illustrious service in the USN up to the early 1990's. I understand all the four Iowa class BBs are now museum ships.

Thanks, Raymond. :)

Thanks Raymond, I got to "ride" the Iowa thru the Panama Canal, a 12 hr trip in the early '80s. Quite an experience for an Air Force guy. :smile2: Chris

Very nicely laid out Chris! {bravo}}...must have taken a while to arrange all the smoke and waves..^&cool
