Be honest, with that title you were thinking of the Spit weren't you?! But no, there is a tv docu on Channel 4 on Sunday night at 8pm about the Mosquito or Wooden Wonder if you will, looks like it will be good.
Rob
It was your name AND the title that made me think of the Spit!
^&grin^&grin
Ok. I'll give you that one.
Will you please ask your bowlers to stop taking wickets, its bad enough anywhere, but at the home of Cricket its .....well just not Cricket!:wink2:
Rob
It has been a good session. Have you ever attended a Lords Test Match?
Yes many many moons ago (1970's/80's moons actually) I also went very often on a Sunday to watch Middlesex play County Cricket with my dad. I don't mean it was Middlesex v my dad.....that wouldn't have been fair would it?!:wink2:
Rob
In my youth I was a bit of a Mike Gatting fan but what was the story with Mike Ramprakash?
'Ramps' as they call him, never quite made it on the international stage as his form suggested he would. But we had two other great county batsmen , Derek Barlow and Clive Radley, who also were never international stars, although Radley did play for England I think.
Ramps did win Strictly Come Dancing and gave up his on drive for the Samba

Radley did play for England. He was a good player of spin and he toured India in 1976 I think and may well have got a big hundred against NZ from memory. I read any cricket book I could find as a child so I know a bit about the 1970s. I was a closet fan of Geoffrey Boycott and Brian Close.
Must of had a boring youth mate............^&grin
And here I was thinking we were going to have a fine dust-up on the Spit vs Hurri subject. Disappointed. :wink2:^&grin -- Al
Oh, dearie me. Don't know where to go with this except to say, had it been the Defiant GB had to depend on, London might now be called New Berlin.{sm2}{eek3} -- Al^&grin
Neither were as good as the Defiant{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}:wink2:

You really do have to wonder. What genius decides forward firing guns are not needed for an aircraft moving forward? I am particularly impressed by the design of the gunner's escape suit. Sounds like it was designed by Rockie the Flying Squirrel. That the suit was called the Rhino should have been a tipoff that maybe it wouldn't float so well. :rolleyes2: That said, the men who had to fly such a aircraft in combat had to have a large pair and I salute them. -- AlIndeed!{eek3}
You do wonder about the thought process don't you. ' Right, so no guns at the front, we all on board with that...right off for lunch'!{eek3}

It is a tribute to wartime ingenuity to adapt a failed system in one role, to another role where it succeeds, and the Defiant certainly fits that category. Still, I wouldn't have wanted to be in the gunner's position under any circumstances. Survival rates for getting out of the turret in emergency situations must have been abysmal. -- AlYes indeed they did. It would take Horse sedatives to get me into a Defiant during the B.O.B, I too doff my hat to these guys. Also I guess we should remember the Defiant did go onto have success as a night fighter, attacking from below its turret was lethal in this role.
