The Queens Cavalry (1 Viewer)

Almost done watching it, Cheers Martyn !!! Great documentary.

It makes me feel old though. Dick Waygood (the Riding Master)was a L/CoH when he was my riding instructor and Joe Weller (The WO2 training the young horses) was on my course as a recruit fresh from the depot.:)

A great series, I think I may even pick up an original copy on DVD now. I remember as a lad my Dad speding ages cleaning and polishing all of his kit. He took great pride in that.

Hi
Would anyone know where I could pick up a copy of this?Plus would someone know the name of the show that was about the JNCO combat training.I think this was on TV about 6 years ago?Great link Thank You.
Cheers

Ah, I didn't notice your avatar before. Good show.
I collect Life Guard and Blues kit. And porcelain figures--
Royal Worcester, Bewick, Sutty, Royal Doulton, and etc.
Mounted ones are nice. I have an Officer's helmet and a
Blues Trooper helmet. The Blues has the name Lockwood 152
written on the sweat band. Neither are that old----early 1990's
I imagine.

I'll have to watch the DVD's again and pay more attention to
the names. Thanks.

I still wince when I think how much buckshee kit I gave away when I left, I had no idea how valuable it was.:)

Dad has an old helmet with a black plume, he said it was a Farrier's helmet. I think it maybe a Dragoons helmet. I will get a pic next time I am there if he still has it. It is no longer highly polished just a lump of tarnished brass (or what seems to be brass)

It's possibly a Royal Dragoons helmet, they did amalgamate with the Royal Horse Guards in 1969.

Thanks for posting this link, I have watched all of the episodes over the last few days. I can understand your pride in having served in such a fine regiment. I do have one question though, why do they call the men wearing sergeants chevron's corporals?

We don't used the rank of Sergeant instead we use the older rank of Corporal of Horse. As a recruit I was told that it was because Sergeant derives from a word meaning slave, where as Corporal derived from a word for servant. As we choose to serve Her Majesty all of our Ncos are Corporals. In full dress the rank is indicated by a gold aiguilette on the left shoulder but in other orders of dress the rank is shown by chevrons and crowns as used by other regiments.

Lance Corporal = Two chevrons with a brass crown above, worn upper arm

Lance Corpporal of Horse = Three chevrons with an embroidered cloth crown above, worn upper arm.

Corporal of Horse = Three chevrons with a brass crown above, worn upper arm.

Staff Corporal = Four chevrons points up with a brass crown above, worn on the lower arm.

Squadron Corporal Major = Large brass Crown, worn on the lower arm.

Regimental Quartermaster Corporal = A large crown in a wreath, worn on the lower arm

Regimental Corporal Major = Royal Arms, worn on the lower arm
