The Rio Olympics (1 Viewer)

I don't have a problem with the US sending their best players but seeing the US win every Olympics is boring. I'd like to see them lose so that it can restore some interest to the competition.

You want to see the Yankees win every WS? No, I don't think so. It remind me of the subtitle of the book Peter Golenbock wrote about the Yankees: "When rooting for the Yankees was like rooting for US Steel."

Not sure what you can do about it, if the Americans have the best team, it's not their fault.

And if the Yankees want to buy the best team every year, it's their dough.......................

I hate olympic basketball....Olympic hockey could be similar but for many players being from around the world. This levels it out and the USA is never a guaranteed winner.
The USA basketball should be utterly embarrassed that some of the games this year were so close.

Why should they be embarrassed? The world is getting better. The same winner year after year is boring.

I'm more embarrassed by the arrogant jerk culture displayed by some of the US athletes this year. A win is a win on the field or court though. It doesn't matter whether it is close or a blowout.

Well its official, China can't take second now so GB finish behind the USA. So proud of our team , we even beat our London tally of four years ago. Also many congratulations to the US for their excellent performance across many sports.

China are bad losers and the less said about the Russians the better!

Funny thing with the Olympics, my wife and I have been very much engrossed ( as we were in London ) up at 2am watching either team GB or Mr Bolt's triumphs and yet many of these sports we wouldn't even think of watching the rest of the year. I think it's something about the sheer size of the thing and of course national pride. You can't ignore that there are athletes there that didn't deserve to be there and also the fact that many people in Brazil are in poverty and didn't want it, but as it's on and you want your country to do well you get sucked in and end up being pretty invested in it .

USA mens team wins the gold.

Watching Carmelo Anthony talk in the post game interview about the game and what the gold medal means to him was pretty special.

Don't forget, he was on that 2004 team that had that epic failure, losing to Argentina in the semi finals.

So see everyone, the US winning the gold medal is not the slam dunk it appears to be.

Congrats to the mens team, this is it for coach K too, he's stepping down as coach having won three golds.

Pretty cool to see him personally congratulate each coach and player.

Ok, the room is starting to get dusty, I'm out................................

To be clear I am in no way saying that the US doesn't deserve to win the Gold in Men's Basketball. However the games are not worth watching. It is beyond a foregone conclusion that they will win. The only time the games were close is at the tip-off. Sure, there were a few games where teams kept it close but even then everyone knew that it was only a matter of time before the US spread it out to a 20 point lead.

Even with Summer re-runs and being in the same time zone viewership was down
almost 20% this year compared to 2012.

Netflix was probably on a roll.

The next three Olympics are in Asia and with the time difference, viewership will probably decline. NBC will push for the best time scheduling they can (since they pay large rights fees) but European countries will be pushing for favorable scheduling of their own as well.
