Hi everyone,
I decided to give a group of some mounted Skinner's Horse figure a high gloss finish and would like to share the result here.
First up are some pics that show the British Officer and the Indian Subahdar in both finishes, the original matte and the new gloss.

And at last a view more different views just showing the glossy finish.
Any comments/opinions on the preference of your choice would be appreciated.

I have been collecting only matte finish, but the gloss looks very good too. The gloss has the flavour of old toy soldiers and would look good in a cabinet, but not so good as matte in a diorama on a ground mat.

I think these look great. I've been thinking of doing this myself. What kind of gloss coating did you use, spray on or brush on?

Bingo! Absolutely agree.

Your painting skills are first class, well done, but I prefer a matte finish - but hey, each to their own IMHO.
Wayne.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
They are meant to be displayed just on a glass shelve in a lighted curio cabinet.
I agree that with all the available diorama buildings, mats, trees and such, the matte finished figures do work better.
The gloss varnish has been applied with brush in two coats, allowing a few hours drying time between coats.

Konrad the only glossy figures i have are
the Beau Geste Durbar
I admit these look pretty cool

Hi Konrad, thank you for posting these fine comparison photos, I have always had a preference for matte but the high gloss finish you have applied really makes those guys pop.

Hi Konrad,

"Stunning" is the word that occurs to me when I view your gloss finished figures. And, as you might guess, I prefer the glossy figures. Like yourself, I display my figures in lighted curio cabinets and, as Oz says, the figures just "pop" behind the lighted glass.

My heartiest congratulations for an outstanding job! Your figures are beautiful!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat {bravo}}

Hi Konrad,

Your gloss finished figures are excellent. I am one person you need not convince about gloss.:wink2:

I have not tried to gloss varnish my K&C figures. Some collectors like to use a spray. Is there any reason/s for using a brush for these figures ?

Thanks, Raymond.:)

Konrad,

they look great... I love detailed gloss finish figures, well done,

John

Konrad, the Gloss figures look stunning!!! {bravo}} like yourself all my glossy figures are displayed in glass cabinets with lights as I think they look better that way! You have done a real outstanding job there mate!

Craig

Very nice Konrad {bravo}} it's gloss for me all the way...but you probably knew that ^&grin

Cheers

Martyn:)

Hi Konrad,

I collect the matt SOE range but aren't these just superb in a gloss finish! ^&cool The gloss varnish brings out the colour and gives a nice deep rich feel to them, if you know what I mean.

Keep them coming.

Hi Konrad, Missed this thead when it was first posted. These K&C figures look great gloss coated.
Good choice to make all bright and shiny. ^&cool - Ken

Personally I think the older era's (like SOE and NAP etc) look really good in gloss because it makes those bright uniforms pop. ^&cool

Once again Konrad you have done a super job on these. In fact I think you have started a craze.
