The terror: Infamy (1 Viewer)

Al...
I think the spirit is haunting Chester because he asked for an abortion inducing medication for Luz from Mrs. Furuya in the first episode...
she regretfully gave it to him but then in her guilt...committed suicide on the dock with a hair stick in her ear...
and now has come back as a spirit haunting the whole community...

That seems to be the basic premise but instead of haunting just poor Chester she has offed just about everyone else. Some of whom had nothing to do with it. And there was all that business about killing the "white devils" which had nothing to do with the abortion. So it's not clear to me what exactly is going on with ghost or yurei. She made that one soldier jump off the watch tower, for example.

I think the soldier was the one that discovered her hiding place and saw her decomposed true self wasn't he?

and blinding her abusive husband by forcing him to stare into the sun...

these I understand...

but the yurei is pretty indiscriminate with who she chooses to punish...

the twin children's stillborn birth confused me...
as she was the assistant to the birth...
then came back and killed the doctor...
I assumed at first she was the one that caused the children to die...

I just assumed she was punishing the whole community over Chester's departure from the old ways......

The captured American soldier who came back apparently possessed kept ranting about killing the white devils. That was one that I couldn't reconcile with the source of the haunting being the abortion.

Doug...there has been more than 1 instance that doesn't jive with my theory...in my first post I tried to give myself some leeway saying that the ghost was punishing the entire Asian community...along with Chester...still...I'm enjoying it...actually much better than the season 1 with the crazy giant polar bear hunting the crew...

There is a whole genre of Japanese horror/ghost stories both in movies and books that are somewhat interesting. Most seem to involve a young female as the ghost. This show hasn't done a very good job of explaining the mythology to an American audience. They seem to assume the audience knows what they are talking about when they make specific reference to Japanese spirits etc.

I think it's a common plot in some anime and manga, too.

May be influenced by the concept in Shinto that besides people, animals, and places, and even objects, have spirits. They're all around. Woe to those who piss 'em off.

Prost!

I made halfway through episode 5; I'm out, I enjoyed the first season a lot better, but hey, that's just me...………………..

Everyone must have given up on this show. I finally made it to the end after several months but just barely. It was a struggle. When all was said and done, I still don't have clue what happened. A pretty disappointing effort. It was tedious and difficult to follow the plot.

I posted in the Movie/TV news a few days ago that they've started talks about Season 3.

Let's hope Season 3 is a lot better than Season 2 was. S2 was so dense that I gave up on it halfway through. -- Al

I recorded all of season 2 but ended up deleting it.
