The View from My Chair (1 Viewer)

Pat,

Thanks for the explanation on the Royal Balloon set. It is definitely one of the more unusual sets I've seen. Is the balloon made of glass. I wasn't sure if you were referring to the glass shelf or the balloon itself.

Brad

Pat ,what a great collection and room. The cabinets are fantastic (as are the soldiers). Even the shelf for the Bullock Draught is beautiful.

I have a friend who has this set and due to its length has to display it on his fireplace mantel .

It is truly a sight to behold in person .

Regards
Kirk

Hi Brett,

The set you see on the shelf is a William Hocker set. Specifically, it is set #6 from his North-West Frontier Campaigns #1 series. The title of the set is: The Royal Artillery Bullock Draught. The set consists of a mounted officer, five marching troopers, 16 bullocks with troopers supervising each pair, and the related artillery items.

The set, as presently displayed, is 43 inches in length. Unfortunately, my curios are only 40 inches wide, so the set cannot not be displayed in my curio in the manner I wanted, so a shelf was necessary that could accommodate the display. Only rarely do I ever romove the set from the shelf as handling the team of sixteen bullocks is a significant challenge. I have attached a few additional photos of the set below in order for you to have a closer view of it. I hope you enjoy it.

Now, about those WWII items. If you could examine my collection more closely, the first thing you might notice is it is lousy with Durbar figures. However, a closer examination would clearly reveal a great diversity of themes and eras. I have always had an interest in WWII and I began collecting it as well as collecting Napoleonic era figures. You will see both represented in my collection. Soon after I began collecting these eras, I realized the number of figures/sets were absolutely endless. The choice I faced was limiting myself to only WWII and/or Napoleonics or enjoying a wider selection of interests. I chose to collect a wider series of interests. Consequently, I have not collected WWII or Napoleonic items for some time now. Simply stated, my pocket book cannot address all the interests I experience and my interests are wide and varied.

I hope you enjoy the additional photos I have supplied below.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hi Brad,

No, the balloon is not made of glass. I was referencing the glass shelves. Mr. Hocker has told me that the set is a very difficult one to make as he must exercise the greatest of care to make certain the balloon does not lean in one direction or another. If it leans, even if ever so slightly, then other problems develop when displaying the set.

I also want to add that it is of the greatest importance that one remove the balloon from its box with very special care. If you are not careful, you can bend the balloon supports when removing it from the box.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Holy cow, Pat, looks like a toy soldier museum! You have a wonderful space devised to display your collection, congratulations! And may you spend many more enjoyable hours sitting amid your display!

Prost!

Hi Pat,

I had time today to look at your thread on your collection room and I must say Pat it's a beautiful room, I love the openess of it and the lighting and it's very neat and comfortable looking room, maybe one day I hope to have one as nice as yours, thanks for sharing some great photos...Sammy

Hi Pat

What a fantastic and beautifully displayed collection. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Regards John

I do like how well you have positioned/spaced the display cabinets...not too cluttered just right!

Nice collection/mancave!

Gentle Friends,

Several of you have asked that I try to take a few closer views of the figures in my curios. Finding the best combinations of distance, lighting, settings, etc., is a huge challenge for this old man, but I am giving it a go. Below you should find three photos of one of my ACW sets. I have attempted to try to capture the essence of the set as it is presently displayed in the cabinet. If you feel these photographs are of sufficient quality, I might try to photograph additional portions of my collection for you to view.

For now, enjoy my limited attempts at becoming a photographer. ^&grin:wink2:

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat,

Thanks for the reply. If I recall, you're getting a special set for Christmas. I look forward to finding out what that is.

Hi Brad,

I am getting a special set for Christmas? You know that for a fact? Can you give me a hint what it might be? :rolleyes2:^&grin:wink2:

Well, if I am getting something special for Christmas, we should soon know what it might be. If Santa proves to be good to me, I will most certainly share photos of his (her) gift.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Those are good looking photos, Pat.
You sure qualify to shoot more photos ^&grin :wink2:, so we all get a close look at all your shelves :smile2:
Cheers!

Pat, your collection is a 10! I really like your room also. All my wargamming figures are in my basement and my very modest toy soldier collection is limited to 2 shelves in our home office. Thanks very much for sharing. I know how difficult it is to take good indoor photos.
Your photos are great.

Re: OTSN 2012 - William Hocker, Proprietor

Gentle Friends,

In post #14 of this thread, I mentioned the fact that a special Hocker set had been acquired at OTSN which will constitute my Christmas present from my wife, Diane. Of course, I have no idea what the item might be, but I will find out soon enough when Christmas Day arrives.
However,...

Warmest personal regards

There you go Brad you are right! What says you Pat?:wink2:^&grin

Hi Jeff,

Hmmm. Special Hocker set? Acquired at OTSN? My wife probably instructed me to forget about it. And,...I always do as she instructs,...except sometimes. :rolleyes2:

No matter. Christmas will soon be here and I will discover to what extent I have been good this year. If I receive anything better than coal, I will report it to the forum. :wink2:

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Gentle Friends,

I am still experimenting with trying to get some quality photographs of closer views of the figures in my collection. The process is a challenge for me. I took a number of photos tonight of a portion of one shelf in my curio. None of these photographs are particularly great and some are down right nasty. However, two of them might be presentable, so I have attached them below.

I hope you enjoy viewing some Beau Geste Durbar figures. I know I enjoy seeing them in the flesh! :wink2:

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat, wonderful collection, elegantly displayed. I was admiring the balloon and elephants in your first set of pics and enjoyed all the close ups in succeeding photos. Many thanks for posting. Chris
