How strange...

Galveston again today...certainly not going to shut them down...but this did make a small dent...

Nearly 500 pounds of meth was allegedly hidden inside a shipment of berries seized in Galveston, according to the DEA Houston Division.
Federal agents say the massive drug bust was carried out by DEA Galveston with help from Texas DPS Southeast Texas Region and Houston Police.
Investigators haven’t released additional details about where the shipment came from or where it was headed, but officials say the seizure is part of ongoing efforts to keep dangerous drugs off Texas streets

500 pounds? That's unreal and like you said, that puts a small dent in the drug trade.

Ever see those videos on YouTube of people getting pulled over and having raft ton of drugs they are smuggling? It's always the same; person gets pulled over not for speeding, but for "following too closely" to the vehicle in front of them........which is code for "someone dimed you out so we pulled you over for some innocuous reason to find the drugs."

yea...it's a drop in the bucket...but still...GPD is doing something good here...really bizarre to have 2 drug loads confiscated in one day...

Mike:

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

When I first visited Texas my then to be wife told me we were going to visit the coast via Galveston.

I excitedly asked if it would be like Carmel in California.

She laughed and told me that the only place on earth like Carmel was Carmel.

Furthermore she told me that Carmel and Galveston are on the same continent but they might as well be on different planets.

Irony is always amusing to me. One thing I continue to read is about people leaving California and where they are moving to. JHollywood stars are leaving California's high cost to relocate to Tennessee. What continues to amaze me and amuse me is this one fact - some of these same stars as recently as 6 months ago vilified the State of Tennessee due to its policies. Funny thing is these same policies are what is attractive and provides a lower cost of living.

As I like to say - you just can't make it up. The mass of people moving to Texas, Florida and Tennessee is out of this world. You know, those backward thinking States....................:)

Given a choice, I have no desire to live in a state where they would deny and take away the rights of Blacks.

If you are talking about the redistricting fiasco, unfortunately it is going on around the Country and has been for some time. In Maryland five years ago, we had a sitting Congressman from Western Maryland which is predominantly a rural area and mostly white (not that color should matter, I 100% agree with you). They redistricted him out of office by adding more voters than his whole district at the time from urban PG county. Now, I ask you, how is that fair? Answer it is not and it is the same as what is happening today. I don't like the redistricting either, but it is no different than most States in the political mire we deal with today.

I am in Texas more than I am in Maryland and I don't see any discrimination, I mean that, zero. People of all backgrounds are generally friendly toward me and I find it a pleasant place to be other than the year they had a zillion straight 100 degree days. My son lives in Chattanooga TN and again, all people of all backgrounds he encounters are pretty friendly.

IMO, you will have jerks, racists and bigots in nearly every place, but also IMO, they are the minority.

Tom:

I read so many articles about people leaving California.

While I am not arguing with that information, my personal experience tells a different story.

In the last 3 years we have had 3 families from California move into our neighborhood in Austin. 2 of them have moved back to Northern California after trying to sell for over a year.

The only thing that is holding back the 3rd from moving back to SoCal is the fact that they are having a difficult time selling their place.

Meanwhile 2 different homes have been put up for sale within a few blocks of our home in California this past month. One sold in 2 days and the other in 5 days.

I am not sure that is a bad thing in a lot of ways. That said - the net increase to Texas is pretty astounding, but percentage wise Tennessee is currently in the lead!

Tom:

Agreed, 100%.

Interestingly enough we have a couple of California transplants in our San Antonio neighborhood and they rave about Texas while not showing any sign of wanting to leave.

I don't see successful states as a threat - that is their good luck. For some time yet it will remain so. People gravitate to a place that's cheap and gives them the promise, if not the reality, of a good wage. Prescience is not my forte but things will probably change; though maybe not in our life-times. I'm staying where I have a job and roots and where my family has always lived and been buried. Ken of EoI was thinking of taking me to Hong Kong to help his biz. But that's too much of a risk for a dime for me.
Also, Union officials/agents don't have a big market there. Nor do Union lawyers. I'm the former, Dad the latter.
I do dislike the favoritism shown to some states by the current administration. They may not ever be proven guilty of other things, and they may sue endlessly to intimidate people, but their leader is the problem. Not the state of x,y or z.
Furthermore, although I agree that no person is ever guilty until proven so in court, I can have my own opinions as to what went down, as many did with O.J. Don't pretend you don't know that I mean. (it was Not Nikki Haley)
Happy Toy Soldier Collecting,

The Pope's warning about AI. Very well thought-out. Maybe I've read too much dystopian sci-fi, but I agree.
I'd like to shout out to Tom D and Mike M and George G & Jason for giving their opinions on controversial topics. I understand why Julie disapproves: if it was my biz I wouldn't approve of "messin' 'round" or "popping off".
I do wish you all the Best and I hope and even pray that this country will come together, do the right thing, and take its place as a Great Power worth dying for.

I think an active debate is a healthy one, it takes a lot of different visions.
Tom

Agreed Tom. You're always on the ball.
But I also like cute dog stories so don't hold back (actually I'm serious!)
Happy Collecting guys and sorry to Julie for any trouble we caused
Paddy
