The Battle of Derne was a decisive victory of a mercenary army led by a detachment of United States Marines over the forces of the Barbary coast nation of Tripoli during the First Barbary War. It was the first recorded land battle of the United States fought on foreign soil.

General Sir John Lambert, KCB, commanded a brigade of the 6th Division at the battles of the Nivelle, the Nive, Orthez, and Toulouse, and the 10th Brigade at the Battle of Waterloo with distinction. He also commanded the British force which won Battle of Fort Bowyer, the last engagement in the War of 1812.
 
Battle of Liebertwolkwitz, 14th October 1813, the cavalry battle that opened the Battle of Leipzig and the largest cavalry battle in European history. It took place South of Leipzig between the French cavalry forces of Marshal Murat and the Army of Bohemia under the Russian General Wittgenstein and after many shifts of fortune only a final lack of allied resolve prevented Murat from snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
