The Battle of Sobraon was fought on 10 February 1846 between the forces of the British East India Company and the Khalsa, the army of the Sikh kingdom of the Punjab. The Sikhs were completely defeated, making this the decisive battle of the First Anglo-Sikh War.

Vimiero:D, 21 August 1808, a most impressive first victory by Wellesley in Spain that was frustrated in part by a ‘stop’ order given by Sir Harry Burrard, an officer senior to Wellesley, who had arrived from England and taken command. The battle proved convincingly that the feared French column was far from invincible. Dalrymple and Burrard stupidly accepted Junot's capitulation on terms that he and his army be repatriated to France by the British fleet. The resulting British outrage caused Wellesley to be recalled to England for an enquiry that ultimately exonerated him, but in the meantime Moore had fought the retreat to La Corunna and been killed.
