General Sir John Oswald, GCB, GCMG (2 October 1771 – 8 June 1840), prominent British officer of the Napoleonic period whose early career is reminiscent of a special forces commander and who commanded in seven different theaters including Sicily, Egypt, the capture of Ionian Islands, the capture of Santa Maura, the retreat from Burgos, and in command of the 5th Division at the victories at San Sebastian, Osma and Vittoria.
