Do you think there are adults who find enough detail in this that would allow them to put this on their mantle?

Sure! Art is always in the eye of the beholder. I know some adult lego collectors. There isn't as much detail in this particular model, but I have been to Legoland in Windsor, England and California. There are some very impressive models (Very big models.) there.

I was just curious as I could never personally imagine displaying it...now if me and the kid built it I could see displaying it for the sense of accomplishment.

Honestly, I couldn't either, but there are some pretty interesting collections and collectors. I have a friend that collects McDonald's Happy Meals toys. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.

Thing is ''art'' is a strange term. I have seen piles of muck get prizes messy beds get them and a myriad of other creations deemed art.

One thing lego creations are some feat there is a lot of work goes into these things so, if I had a display of the contemporary then I would place this in to it for sure.

What makes it art is a purposeful use of a medium. In other words, no, your kid couldn't do that better.

I put The Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman together from Lego and enjoyed putting them together.I even displayed them on a shelf until my cousin came over and liked them so much I gave them to him.By the way he's 7 years older than me and I was 50 at the time.:D:eek:

99% of my LEGOS went this summer on eBay. They were fun but I've moved on.

Didn't know about the one in California. Took our boys to the one in Denmark. Very impressive theme park. Imagine the west coast park is similar.

The one in California obviously has American themed sets and I have not been to the one in Denmark but, I think that one at Windsor has better displays. IMHO

I built 3 ACW Ironclads and gunboats and have them displayed in my TS case..I once lego-built a 24 gun frigate as well as a 12 gun sloop. My biggest gripe with Legos, was how they got to the finished result, by using so many unnecessary parts. I rarely used their instructions as long as I had an extra stockpile of blocks and such laying around:D...Michael

If you guys are into Lego's and are in NYC sometime- go to the Toys r us there in Times Square- a scale replica of the Empire State Building- complete with King Kong!! :)
