This would never happen where I live... (1 Viewer)

"The NYPD has busted three men, including a reputed Crips gang member, for the caught-on-video water dousing of cops in Harlem and Brooklyn, law enforcement sources told The Post on Wednesday.
Gangbanger Courtney Thompson, 28, surrendered Wednesday morning at the 73rd Precinct stationhouse for his alleged involvement in the Brownsville drenching incident, sources said.
Thompson, a Brownsville resident, was hit with charges of obstruction of governmental administration, criminal nuisance, criminal tampering, disorderly conduct and harassment, police said.
NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan tweeted about the arrest Wednesday, but did not name the suspect.
“Actions like we’ve seen in videos recently will NEVER be tolerated in this city. YOU WILL BE ARRESTED,” Monahan said in the tweet."

That's a step in the right direction.

We'll see how this plays out.

now the judge has to do his part...
I expect he will make an example of these fools...

The damage was already done when those cops kept walking and did nothing. PERCEPTION! Not a word on the national evening news that there were arrest. Unless those arrested individuals were on probation for some other offense they will not see a day of jail time.
Even one of the NYPD commanders in speaking to the press said that maybe these officers should seek another line of work.

The NYPD has busted three men, including a reputed Crips gang member on probation, in connection with the caught-on-video water-dousing of cops in Harlem and Brooklyn, law enforcement sources told The Post Wednesday.

Gangbanger Courtney “Killer Court” Thompson, 28, of the Crips subset “Fresh Gangstas” surrendered Wednesday morning at the 73rd Precinct stationhouse for his alleged involvement in the Brownsville water drenching incident, sources said.

Thompson, a Brownsville resident, was hit with charges of obstruction of governmental administration, criminal nuisance, criminal tampering, disorderly conduct and harassment, police said.

He has more than 20 prior arrests on his record, including for assault, said sources, who noted that most of the busts are sealed.

Thompson has been on probation since 2018 in connection to a 2015 robbery busy, according to sources.

One thing about the police is that they get no backing from the spineless politicians who sell them out for PC points and New York has the worst one in the country.

I know many people call the media too liberal and biased......I see it both ways.
We are constantly deluged with news of crime, gang bangers, riots and rappers.
Do we ever get stories of the minority, inner city kids and families who against all odds become success stories.
Young people who have to contend with crime ridden neighborhoods, poverty, drugs, violence, dysfunctional families and racism.
I have personally witnessed hundreds of amazing success stories.....young people who come out of inferior schools and through
their perseverance and drive become productive American citizens......lawyers, doctors, engineers, law enforcement, health care workers,
business owners, bankers and so much more.
How about encouraging those who do the right thing with some credit, praise and visibility.

I agree that these punks belong in jail and I'm not soft on crime. I just work hard to understand the problems and try to come up with
solutions for better outcomes.
No wonder so many of us have biases and prejudices towards certain groups when all we see are the negatives. It saddens me that the
individuals who work so hard against the terrible odds they were born into are lumped together with the bad apples.
Even on this forum we jump on stories about crime and bad behavior, we get fired up about the bad actors. But how about the positive stories?
I work with some great organizations like "Junior Achievement", "W!SE"(working in support of education) "NYC Mentors" and "Big Brother/Big Sister".
Gentlemen there is hope but we need more involvement and understanding.

Sorry to be preachy but it is a passion of mine.

Happened again in New York where it is on video as well as in Atlanta.

I just saw that video...
dousing cops with water...
this is gonna become a trend if someone doesn't stop it...
the article also said rocks and coolers were thrown at them...
I just don't understand it...
not at all...

I consider myself a very liberal person — definitely to the left of center (although I’m becoming more moderate in my older days) but none of what you said above is germane to what happened to these officers. The offenders should be prosecuted to the full extent legally possible. We seem to be in a period where rules of conduct and rules of civility seem to be fraying. What happened to these officers seems symptomatic of that trend and should not be permitted to take place.

Brad, I respectfully disagree. If we don't talk to the bigger issues then nothing gets accomplished except the satisfaction of blame and punishment. Sure, these people did wrong and should be prosecuted. I have said that.
Whether the police involved were wrong to walk away could be debated. But the fact that videos and investigations are bringing the perpetrators to justice is a good thing. Unfortunately the media finds it profitable to keep showing "criminal acts" and many get all their information and biases from what they watch on the news.
So yes I went beyond the actual event to illustrate how we can try to change the culture of crime and to educate some of our members to both help and not blame an entire group. Just being a spectator and critic doesn't help anybody.

Heh we're all entitled to our opinions.

Let's be honest, this topic is not "germane" to toy soldier collecting and history!

True but this is the Treefrog Chat area where non-TS topics are discussed.

True Brad, I just thought i could expand the subject into something more positive but people seem to take it the wrong way.
Trying to find solutions to prevent these behaviors doesn't mean I am anti-law enforcement or want the perpetrators to get away with their crimes.

By the way the Attorney General's decision to reinstate the death penalty for heinous crimes is ok with me.
