Tickets...2011 Superbowl XLV... (2 Viewers)

You should jump on this Brad, the Jets are a lock, just ask Rex Ryan.....................imagine paying 8 grand to watch a football game, good God..............two friends of mine cancelled their hotel and flight arrangements Sunday night at around 8:00pm, who can blame them...........they almost talked me into going with them........

I sat in the type of luxury suite depicted for last year's NBA all star game. The stadium is quite an experience. I bet the SB will be a great one too!

I've been to a few games at the old Giants Stadium and its a terrible way to see a game. I'd much rather sit in the stands anyday.

Not when its 20 degrees outside. I love being outside when it is nice out.

But don't forget rocket scientists who are in charge of the NFL have awarded the new Giants stadium the Super Bowl in a few years.

Think of how much fun that will be to pay 7 grand for a ticket to sit in -5 degree temperatures at 9:00pm in New York.

Brilliant.

I would agree, except for those who have not been to the new Dallas Stadium, it is ridiculous the size of the Screen. Basically, as it was explained to me, the goal was to provide folks with the "theater" experience. The screen is so large, it actually detracts from what is going on on the field. NOW, for the relative minimal size of the NBA Court, it was needed, but from what Football folks down there tell me, it takes away from the game b/c it is so big. I was told that the screen and its electronics, etc. cost more than the original Texas Stadium (Irvine) that was demolished. Go figure! Jerry Jones...........

Anyhow, George, love the NY comment, I always thought the goal was to have the Superbowl either indoors or where it is relatively warm. NY really could be unbearably cold.

I can add a little insight on Super Bowls my close friend was the President of NFL Properties and If they could, they would only rotate between Miami, LA, and before Katrina its was New Orleans. With the new stadiums being built, the league uses the 'we'll let you host a Superbowl chip' which generates a ton of revenue for the city. Also, The league offices are in New York which means less expenses for league office staff.

Oh well as long as it's short money for the league office staff, then it's a great idea.

I don't have a problem with them rotating the host city, but have it in a warm weather city. What if there is a blizzard that day, you're going to play in a blizzard?

Brilliant.

They should build a stadium in Vegas and have it there every year....................

Where is it written that the game has to be played in a warm weather city. Some of the most memorable games have been played in the bitter cold such as the Ice Bowl. It's a cold weather sport. Why only stick the big game in a warm site. It should be interesting when it's played in NJ.

Because you don't want the weather to influence the outcome of the most important game in the entire season, that's why, not to mention explain the attraction to a fan to sit in freezing cold temperatures in a blizzard after paying 7 grand to go to the game.

I went to a Super Bowl in New Orleans, it was a great time, did a lot of fun outdoor things, New Orleans is a great city; oh by the way, the game wasn't half bad either.

How about this Brad; the Jets make it to the Super Bowl for the first time in 44 years, are losing 9-7 in a blizzard and it's 4th and goal at the 2 with 4 seconds left in the game. They decide to kick a game winning field goal

Ball is snapped, kicker goes to try the kick, slips, falls on his ***, misses the ball, game over, Jets lose.

You'd have a stroke.................

You have to remember that the Superbowl is really a NFL Thank you party for the corporate sponsors. I've been to ten Super Bowls and game is almost an afterthought unless its your team in it. Less than 5% of the tickets are allowcated to the season ticket holders. The reason there is a two week layoff between games is to produce more merchandise. The NFL is about promotion and selling TV and Licensing, So in that regard, I do think it is brilliant.

I love how the NFL operates; the Super Bowl in effect is not for the fans of the two teams involved, but more for the NFL to use as a cash cow and it's corporate sponsors.

The tickets for the most part go to people who couldn't name five players on either team; I know, I've saw many of them in action in New Orleans.

In the meantime, real fans spend thousands of dollars to sit in the upper deck to watch their team, I needed the hubble telescope to see the field from where I was sitting in the stadium...............

Well I would go with Brad on this one George. For those of us that grew up before domes and teams from funny cities like New Orleans, Houston and even Foxborough:p, the weather was part of the game. I frankly hate artificial turf and much enjoyed the classic games before it was introduced. The weather for the greatest game ever played wasn't exactly perfect but those classic teams adapted just fine. As for the fans, as you note there aren't many now at the SB but for the real fans that went to those earlier games it was all part of the experience to suffer along with your team.

Now for your example, they would just bring out the little tractor for the FG attempt; sound familiar?:p:D

If that happens George, it would have been that idiot Doug Brien kicking the ball :(

When you think of the NFL, you conjure up guys whose names end with a "ski", big brawny guys, who played in all types of weather. You think of those old Eagle teams in the 60s who used to put serious hits on people. The weather was cold and everybody shivered. Remember the Ice Bowl or the 85 Bears. They played the Giants in subartic temperatures and then took care of the LA Rams in more of the same. That's what it's all about. No quarter given, no quarter asked. Where the cold is warmer than the hits that they used to give out to each other. That's the NFL, no playing in some indoor stadium, but braving the elements. The Purple People Eaters using the elements to administer punishment.
