Timpo GI Soldiers of WW2 (2 Viewers)

It's been a while - but have finally got around to re-painting another Dinkey Jeep - this time to provide me with a "lookalike" pair of GI - MP's - escorting one of those improvised GI ambulances to a Field Dressing Station - somewhere in Normandy.

Once again I've adapted a pair of castings from Dorset Soldiers to look a lot like the Timpo GI's that Timpo never made. Add in to a very second-hand Dinky Jeep (with new tyres) - and an improvised signboard on the front of the jeep - and I have another addition to my fleet - and collection. jb

Had not seen this thread before, excellent work !

Your new jeeps seem to have more 'gloss', and a different green, or lighting is changed.

Did you need to use your "Optivisor" for the jeep sign ?
Lettering at that scale is extremely difficult.

Great backdrop also.

You continue to amaze.

Thank you.

I used a different green for the MP jeep than the "ambulance". Yes - to the tiny jeep sign - which were often made up locally to suit any vehicle - and yes - they are tricky at that size by hand. Glad you like them - as I'm always trying to extend my Timpo WW2 figures. jb

Thanks Ray - glad you like them too. I bought a small batch of four of these Dinky Jeeps at a knockdown price. All of them required a bit of attention - but were basically sound - just were in "played with" state. So - a rub down and a splash or two of paint - and they could become anything you fancied.

I also liked the Timpo range of WW2 figures - which haven't been made in metal since the mid 1950's - so was delighted to find that Dorset Soldiers had begun re-casting a few of these old masterpieces - which steadily expanded over time to include nearly all of those originally produced. Indeed, the owner Giles Brown has also expanded the original range - by producing lookalike seated figures - to fit the Dinky Jeep - and that's how I got into making a few of them - as you've seen. He also can supply spare wheels and tyres for the Jeeps - which was just as well!!!:D

I still have one Jeep left to go - and I quite fancy making one up as a UN vehicle on peace-keeping duties ( which is something that I actually did myself at one time in the British Army). I think I'll keep on with the Timpo US crew though - so it will fit in with others. Maybe next year for that one.

Cheers Ray - jb

Well Johnny I'd like to challenge you on a jeep project, how about a North african SAS jeep or two? Your skills at repair and conversion would work well to modify headwear and uniforms on British desert attired troopers? Having read several book and Osprey publications on the subject, they really were a special and brave group. Your thoughts?

PS I knew you were running out of projects...^&grin

Ah! - yes - I know the one you mean - I have a Tamiya version somewhere - still packed away from our last move. I'll have a think about that one - as I think I'll need a ton of jerry-cans - and a few machine guns stuck all over it. Won't be this side of Xmas though - as I won't have time to finish my scheduled projects already in the pipe-line. I'll see what I can do - as I DO like that one. jb
