As a rabid Tommy Atkins enthusiast keen to make a positive (however laughable) contribution to the Forums,I went outside to play today... and decided that these two shots were worth sharing. The second is included despite it's background issues.Best Regards, oldboy

oldboy,
I think the set-up is fab! I love the use of the JG waterfall! And I can say that you've done a bang-up job with the background! Where are you that you're not buried in snow like me?

Not laughable at all - these are very nice figures and background. :)

Wonderful scenes and figures. Are these matte TA and did you paint them yourself?
I hope you'll show us your Sudan and FIW collections.

Welcome to the forum.

Great photos and beautiful painted figures.
The painting on these seems to be much more advanced then what I saw on a few TA figures at shows.
They look outstanding.
Thanks for posting them.

:) You're very kind, 1879fanatic ,and coming from one of my 'favoritest' photographers, whose works I've enjoyed for years-that's especially encouraging. The bit of sidewalk offers little clue, but the bleached out grass(practically screaming for some Zulus) is typically SE KS. -and as a sojourning Oregonian,I'm fighting very hard to take the Wise Old Owl's advice ;) Best,ob

Tis a bonnie wee scene

:D Yes,my heart's in the Highlands,my heart is not here...my brain, well anyone's guess... Thank you very much thebritfarmer & especial thanks for the cheery photos of your vintage Scots Grey up in the WB zone:cool:.Best,ob

Thank you,aujj65,coming from an undisputed master, that is indeed kind-the first shot was serendipitous and the second does show what very nice figures these are-as to the background,I've every hope of evolving :D Best,ob

Thank you,PolarBear, and while I'm at it ,Thank you for all of your brilliant photosharing,I as well enjoy your compositions enormously.I reckon that you gentlemen and several others set the bar very high :eek: These are actually glossy TA -it was a lovely overcast day here,so the gloss is not so evident. The painting credit is entirely TA ,the Bonnie Prince,2 kilted shoulder arms figures & piper I ordered from TA ,all the others came direct to me from Gosport as eBay wins.Sadly my collection er vanished a couple years ago-and in it's newest incarnation the Sudan is sorely neglected and the FIW 'just ain't what it used to be' but I do hope to put together some Bushy Run Black Watch shots-Look for them at a waterfall near you !:D Best,ob

Thank you, kogu -I couldn't possibly agree more, indeed beautifully painted...so much so that I keep getting paranoiac intimations of this being some well kept secret-which I've determined to expose. It is to be noted that TA offer all of their figures as castings, and it has been my experience that not all figures sold as TA,for example on eBay  are indeed TA paint jobs-to be fair, the seller may well not have the foggiest.I've acquired at least 1/2 doz imposters in as many years and believe I've trained an eye for the genuine-however hazy the photo-but as a rule-if the painting isn't stunning ,it may not be TA painting. To be sure TA IS a family owned & operated business, and the Turners and their associates may get a bit overwhelmed-all of these factors add to the dearness of their product to me.:D Best,ob

Thanks for the pictures. I only have one Tommy Atkins figure which is a French soldier at-the-ready from their French and Indian Wars range. If you like glossy figures, they have a style of their own. :)

There are so many glossy manufacturers out there... Tommy Atkins, Tradition, Beau Geste, Edmund's, Britains, Tedtoy, Monarch Regalia, Imperial... it's amazing that all of them have been able to survive with the Matte figures being so popular amongst collectors these days...

:D well, they're not popular among me,and in the immortal words of Mrs. Slocombe (Slocum) "...I am unanimous in that!"

Very nice figure and again great use of your yard. Mine is under several feet of snow at the moment.

Randy

Look at the size of those Amazonian clovers!:p
I wish I had multiple ecospheres in my yard: Desert, Jungle, Arid plains, Mountains, streams, space!

SOO-OO,You've got me scrambling about, scissoring clover from the yard, and as seen in this Baggot's Hussars Trooper & a rare Wm B South African Kyloe shot -I STILL MISSED SOME :D. However as a special treat for forensic techs, there appears to be a great looming hippie reflected (appropos) in the gloss on the horses' a**;)ob
