Dad ! there's some weirdo at the door saying he's oldboy an he's come for his beer ! :D It may be awhile,I hope that you remember which one's mine !
But really, that's NOT an offer I'm likely to forget,Thank You
And the answer is ,a. fixed .In my seemingly eternal struggle with verbosity, I often overedit myself plum into cryptic territory...That is literally a folded up calendar photo of the Columbia River Gorge , propped up with several vhs tapes and the (well travelled) JG waterfall-I'm technologically really a troglodyte (think 13th Warrior ) blundering into a series of progressively happier accidents,I confess to having taken 52 shots of this scene & variations, and those two were the ones most worthy of the Manufacturer's honour and the pleasure of the forum -I never guessed how much fun I'd be having with this new obsession.AM DELIGHTED TO HEAR YOU'RE ENTERING THE FRAY :cool::cool: I'm positive you'll prove a Master in no time, and will provide fresh and intriguing works for our enjoyment.
Eventually it dawned on me that one of the purest pleasures of these forums is found in collectors sharing photographs and indeed that the process as well as the product is an art form. Best Regards,John

John,
Very, Very nice. I enjoy your figures and set-ups immensely. I especially am in awe of how you got those trees in the shot so well.:cool:

The series gets better and better! Next installment, please!

John, do you happen to know who sculpted the mounted officer? It looks like the same figure the Irish Toy Soldier Museum includes in its 18th Foot series:

IrishToySoldierMuseumOfficer18thFoo.jpg

I wonder, though-I'm remembering something that they may use Tommy Atkins castings. Some of their other figure sets were sculpted by Martin Tabony.

Your series is getting better and better! Next installment, please!

Prost!

1879,I'm oft amazed at how a rock formation or the background will come in crystal clear and the figures are so blurred they appear to be vaporising :D

theBaron,MANY MANY heartfelt Thanks for the photo ,lovely figure,GREAT Pic:D Really can't tell you how much I enjoy seeing a TA pic that I didn't take;) Yes. ITSM does use TA castings for the 18th & (is it the 35th Royals?) as well as 1916 Easter Rising.I regret to admit that though I've mused on it all day  cannot recall who does most of the TA sculpts...mayhap some kind soul will supply this info...or I might abruptly recall

This is a great set. Which Tommy Atkins is it and is it still available painted by them?

Randy

John,
By any chance, are you the Marketing Director for Tommy Atkins? You are generating a huge amount of interest(rightfully so) in this manufacturer!
The focus problem we all have to work on, unless Randy has some new aperature tricks. There is a way to leave the aperture open manually so everything is in focus, but like I stated already, I failed out of Crime Scene Photography, solely on non-attention issues.

Hey, Randy,Pleasure to hear from you ! :) Was approaching worry since you were a bit quiet for a short.
The figures ARE currently available & they are a FIW109 Camp Woman in scarf with Bag ,and FIW97 78th Fraser Highlander... (fusilierminiatures.com).
I forebore titling this pic ,seemed to me it spoke most clearly for itself...howzabout The Newest Canadians ?

Best,John
P.S.( Besides the lack of focus'll get me more milage out of this new backdrop-more than one waterfall in that calandar.)

I was in Connecticut for the weekend and off-line. I am currently working on a project that will cut back on my own posts a wee bit.

Mike is right that you have spurred interest in Tommy Atkins

The Fraser Highlanders were in Connecticut (my native state during the FIW and some later settled there). John Jenkins Frasers (below) are quite nice but I do not believe you collect matte finish figures.

BTW I was a librarian for 30 years. :)

Their figures are well-sculpted, and if they're not available as castings, I'd buy them, strip the paint and paint them myself.

Prost!

Connecticut was your native state during the FIW ? Had you figured for a MUCH younger man.
Those JJD Frasers ARE splendid,I'd own all the sets but for poverty and priorities  I have some matte figures,it's just my taste to vastly prefer the Glossies.
My Respects for the 30 years amongst the tomes.Do feel free to shssssh me as needful :D

So great was the rejoicing in Glen Oldboy on reading Brigadier General Jeff's despatches from London, mentioning the raising of a Lowland Regiment & the possibility of Regt. Lally shipping from France ...

.... that the glen was unable to contain the elation, and worries over two suns and innapropriate shadows were but a dim memory ... :D:D:D
THANK YOU JEFF :cool::cool::cool:

John,
Great shot! I know that your base is the wonderful JG waterfall! I demand to know(Maybe you already explained-but,hey, I drink diet pop with aspertame) about the trees and the In- Native Americans. Who makes the trees that blend so nicely? And what tribe are the native foward observation scouts?
Please:)
Mike

"I'd like ta git ma hands on the varmint wot's been sellin' guns to them Injuns..."

Mike, The trees are all vintage J&G Miniatures i.e. prior to the new foliage approach -I've yet to experience the new stuff-but suspect it's lovely. The er tribesmen are all listed under the heading"North American Woodland Indians"so their tribal derivation tends to shift a bit with my needs-believe they're Ottawa just now ;)
Brad,The "varmint" you seek is luckily(for himself) absent on a trading mission, but may be expected back before Fall-will attempt to post a photo at the earliest...:D
Best,John
