This is great news. This is a terrific film. The book, Tora, Tora, Tora, was never published in the US, only Japan. It was written by my history professor (at UMd in the early 70's), Gordon Prange. He held a special viewing of this movie for his students one night at the Student Union theater. It was a blast to have a historically knowledgeable crowd to watch with, along with all of Prange's running commentary. I look forward to the extra footage. -- Al

Great movie and I have read several of Prange's books including At Dawn We Slept. Can't believe I missed the viewing at the Student Union. :rolleyes2: Saw a lot of movies there. Chris

Hi Chris. The showing of "Tora, Tora, Tora" at the SU theater was a special, one time viewing that Prange set up specifically for his WW2 course that semester (don't remember when, '74, '75?). It wasn't advertised and was supposedly was only for his students at the time, but a lot of other people showed up. Prange payed for it although there might have been a nominal "admission" charged, just don't remember. Prange was a riot to listen to and a great prof. He held a running commentary throughout the film involving his knowledge of the events and personalities, many of whom he knew personally through his interviews for his Pearl Harbor project. It was fun. -- Al

That really would have been great to have heard his comments. I forgot he was at UM. I was gone by '75 if it was then. Chris

That is great news and long overdue.{sm4} For those who don't want to wait and want a great deal (which includes me), the British release, with the extended cut is available now at Amazon.uk. I will likely order mine soon.

I got this last month and not wanting to dampen the thread enthusiasm for the US Bluray release....but......the actual HD transfer is not a great deal better than my standard DVD copy.

For an "old" film its not bad but not a patch on Cross of Iron or Zulu BR's
