I purchased these from the Tower giftshop approx 2000-2001
Have never seen them about since - or even mentioned
They are Britains.
Does anyone know anything about them, a catalogue number - if one exists? and any other info.

Thanks{sm4}

Are they marked Britains? I have never seen or heard of them and they are not in any of my books.

Hi
Yes - 100% Britains - Marked on Base - Made in China.

Thats why I was wondering if anyone knew anything, as I had looked thru the Britains books and on this site and not ever come across this figure.
They were sold singly, in the gift shop at the Tower of London itself - so assumed it must have been an exclusive to that site only.

Learn something new everyday, usually items earmarked for gift stores were just paint variations of figures already being made.

Hi There,

Very cool to see a figure like this that may well be an unknown one to the bulk of the collectors out there. Hopefully someone will be able to shead some light on its origin etc.

Thanks for the really cool puzzler!

Dave

This is Norman Joplin
As you may know I am the author of a reference book entitled Britains New Toy Soldiers and Figures 1973-Present,the book concentrates on gloss painted items only.
The figure shown intrigues me and in your description you say "100% Britains"
Is the item marked Britains ? and if so any chance of seeing an image of the underside of the base?
Regards Norman

Hi Norman
I have your book - hence my puzzle - as I did not find this figure in it...
It shall take me a few days to put a few photos up of it (probably be able to pull it out this weekend) and put the images up as soon as I can.

Hi Dave as a previous post said " you learn something everyday"
Look forward to seeing the markings,I will try and ask a few of my UK contacts and see if anyone can throw light on the item
I do not usually get time to log on to Treefrog very often but will certainly try again soon to see what crops up. may i suggest you email my co author John Waterworth and tell him about the figure his email is jwaterwor@aol.com
He does not ,as far as I know subscribe to Treefrog, mention me if you wish by all means

High Adventure!

If Norman doesnt know the figure then we have a mystery indeed!

I was going to send you an email Dave and suggest that you contact Norman so we are in luck that he happened to read the post. I too look forward to the next batch of photos.

All the best

Dave

A further thought
Britains did issue an Executioner figure fairly recently, just find it odd that they would have issed the one in question and not simply kept it in production ?????? rather than make a whole new casting.

Hi Norman,

The time period puts it before the current owners so its possible it was "lost" in the shuffle. But it certainly is odd that there seems to be no reference to it anway where. Looking forward to some more photos of it.

Dave

Hi
Finally got to do a few more snaps - showing the base detail
Look forward to your further thoughts.
