Any of the Australian forum members have details of any shows in Australia for next year.

There is ACOTS (Australian Collectors Of Toy Soldiers) at Easter, and I usually get the information about that in march, so I'll post that for you. I think last year it was in Sale Vic, but it alternates around Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

There was a show in Brisbane for two years (1999 & 2000) called AUSFIG. Pretty much anybody who was in the Toy Soldier business in Oz came the first year. I attended but since I was local my expenses were low.
The numbers of visitors to the show was low and most dealers would have lost money. None of the interstate dealers who came the first year returned the second year and that pretty much indicates how the first show went.
I have attended model shows but that is a totally different type of visitor.
The problem for dealers is the expense of travel, transporting the stock and accomadation, show fees and the long distances make it very hard to make a profit.
The problem for any organisor is the venue costs and the high cost of advertising to try to attract people to the show.
I think the spread out population and long distances make such shows very difficult to operate compared to say UK and USA.
Regards
Brett

Unfortunately the same long distances and small market means no good toy soldier shows in Canada as compared to the USA or Britain. If I want to attend a good show, I drive the 10 hours from Toronto to Chicago. The only one day trip to a show is near Detroit.

Would like to go ACOTS if its ever held in Sydney again? cant se myself. driving 20+hrs or flying interstate just to walk around a room in 10mins.
I wish we had toysoldiers shows down here in oz but i guess with a population of just over 22million its just to small a market.
oh well there always my once a year trip to Peter Nathan's ToySoldier shop in the Sydney CBD.

Ragnar,

like you I did my visit to Peter Nathan in July, as his shop is my closest, but thats a 5 hour flight.

My next closest toy soldier shop isn't Brett in Brisbane.... its one in Singapore, and I can also pick up duty free AND get a good Chinese meal :)

John,

I guessed that it had to be the Timemachine Studio. This shop is listed on the K&C website as an authorised dealer.

There is not much else in the way of toy soldier shops here unfortunately.

The local restaurants and duty free shops.....plenty of these.

Merry Christmas,

Raymond.
