Hi Guys,
Almost a year ago we sold some K&C Knights to a TV show in Australia called Mclouds Daughters. Don't ask me what it is about becuase even if I watched it I would not admit it. Apparently a new character was a historical buff. He is obviously a bit weird because they called me today to mention a new plot twist ithat involves some of the figures being put in a freezer and then having their heads cut off ! The good news is stunt doubles are required !!!
When I informed Andy previously about the TV show he mentioned he had sold figures to Pirates of the Carribean 3 (see desk of evil English guy).
Anyway that leads me to the idea of this new thread. What movies or TV shows have featured Toy Soldiers/Collectors ?.
For movies I will get the ball rolling and mention Ronin starring Robert De Niro and Sean Bean (SAS wannabe guy) and featured a great Samurai display.
For TV series UK collectors of a certain age will no doubt remember Callan with Edward Woodward from the 70's (saw they have box DVD sets available here now).
Can you guys come up with any more ?
Regards Brett
OzDigger I am expecting at least 3 from you !
Maybe K&C UK TV could do a feature if copyright on such scenes not a factor.

Yes, years ago in the UK there was a TV series called Callan (1967-72). The adventures of a government assassin staring Edward Woodward who played David Callan and in his spare time painted and collected soldiers.

Also on BBC there was the Monach of the Glen, which had the old boy Hector (Richard Briers) playing with his Jacobite Rebellion set up.

In one of the Roger Moore James Bond movies, there was an arms dealer who had tables and tables of dioramas with toy soldiers. The dioramas and toy soldiers were provided by Jim Hillestad of the Toy Soldier Museum in Pennsylvania.

The film version of Callan featured 25mm wargames of Gettysburg and a Napoleonic battle, might have been Waterloo? These featured armies and terrain made by Peter Gilder of Hinchliffe fame.

In the movie Young Winston there is a scene wher he is playingwith his toy soldiers when his father Lord Randolph comes in to speak to him. In teh Patriot, toy soldiers are melted into lead to make bullest and in one episode of ER there was a lady on her way to a miniatures convention when she has an accident and comes into the ER

On the channel cn8 on the comcast network on a show called The Art of Living they featured Jim Hillestad and took a little tour around the museum and he showed how to make a diorama.

Brett, I've just noticed your "expectation" from me, I'll try and think of some but meanwhile let's recap.

Mclouds' Daughters (a soapy for female viewers) - K & C Knights, soon to be without heads.

Pirates of the Carribean 3 (Imo not as good as 1 & 2) - K & C figures on desk of bad English guy.

Ronin (a terrific movie) - Japanese castle with Ronin and current Samurai etc.

Callan (hard core early MI-5 type series) - The lead character collected, assembled and painted figures between hits. He also took the expression "kill the light" way to literally.

Monarch of the Glen - Jacobite rebel figs.

Bond movie "The Living Daylights" - Baddie Brad Whittaker (Joe Don Baker) has several cool dios (including Picketts Charge) with working features, but he meets his Waterloo at the hands of Roger Bond via the head of Wellington. Btw Joe Don Baker returned to play a CIA agent in Golden Eye and Tomorrow Never Dies. Yes, I'm a bit of a 007 fan :)

Young Winston - playing with his toy soldiers.

Patriot - toy solders melted to make bullets.
