This might have been discussed before if so then apologies!
Toy soldiers,is that really the most accurate or correct description of what we collect?
I cant really recall the last set of "toy soldiers"that actually said it, on the box.
Historical miniatures, models, metal figures, etc. seem more apt but toy soldiers? When was the last time you played with your figures?
Personally i like the phrase "toy soldiers" Its shame some companies, people don't share that view:confused:
Just a quick thought.:)

No matter what they are called now, I still play with them.......Michael

It does not matter which term I use, toy soldiers or historic miniatures whenever I tell friends or acquaintances about my hobby; they always just smile and look at me with that “Oh, how nice – what the heck is the matter with this guy anyway, oh yeah, now I remember, he is completely certifiable”. I really don’t believe that they know what I am talking about and that they truly do not understand this hobby of ours. I like the term “Toy Soldiers”.:)

my brother in law insulted my toy soldiers once i sat on him and twisted his ear he didn't do it again i agree my wife and kids seem to be the only ones who know why i do what i do. i don't give a monkeys toot what other people think next time your at a party and talking to a group of people start talking about your hobby see how long it take for everyone to naff off its great fun

When I was a child they were toy soldiers. As a man they have become military miniatures, I no longer play with them, I display them and treasure them for future generations to enjoy.

If you still play with them, why call them what you like. I enjoy the fact that none of my current figures are missing their heads, arms and legs as my Britians Toy Soldiers from yesteryear.:D

It's only a problem for us English-speakers. In German, they've always been tin soldiers. Very practical.

Oiso, ös is ganz Wurscht, was mia insere Figuren nennen, hauptsach' is, mir hamm hoit a Freid dran!

Prost, beianand!

I just call them toy soldiers - even though I don't play with them, they are still my toys!:p

There is nothing "toy" about their current prices.;) I think you should call them whatever you like and use them the same way.:D

How's that old saying go . . . "the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys!":D

Well I thought the difference was that their voices were deeper and they had become bald and fat. So I suppose Louis's version is better.

My saying may be better, but yours is for the most part far more accurate!:D

Well guys I still play with mine- without putting them in any danger of damage - by placing them in various dioramas or diodramas whatever you want to call them.

And based on the amount of dios shots posted on this forum a heck of a lotta other guys do as well. And this also tells me that the verb "to play" with ones soldiers now has a whole new meaning and is clearly reflected in the pictures posted.

Well I guess the pictures don't lie.:D If you apply that expanded definition, there are indeed many who qualify.;)

Were men we play! It may baseball, bowling, with cars, with w@$!n, or with toy soldiers. We are men and we play!

Something mentioned on this thread made me think of starting a new thread so, look out for it in this category...

Well I don't play with my "toy soldiers" but I still like the name because it makes them sound classic.

I used to be a little sensitive about collecting "toys" and called them military miniatures and model railroads. Now that I am old and retired I do not have any concerns about telling others about my toys. Just don't ask me to let others play with MY toys......................
