Toy Soldiers,Right description or not? (1 Viewer)

Imo 'Toy Soldiers' are the glossy soldiers that children used to play with in years gone by together with the plastic soldiers of more recent times. The term 'Military Model' seems more apt to the items most of us are collecting now. But to most people they will always be toy soldiers, which is ok by me.

Well, toy soldiers doesn't sound right for matte painted figures.

I've always called the matte soldiers "Military or Miniature Figurines". I guess the glossies are more what we tend to think of as Toy Soldiers. There does seem to be a bit of a crossover though. Friends tell me that some of the new Britains glossies are amazingly lifelike, and I've seen some mattes - that weren't.

Cheers

I still view them all as toy soldiers , in one way or another they are
still being played with ,albeit a little more carefully than as a young
fella due to the cost of these guys.

It's not play, it's called rearranging your display to enhance the home decor. At least that is what I tell my wife when I'm caught doing it ;)

I guess if thats the worst thing she catches you doing , your doing ok ;).
My nephew calls them dolls , so toy soldiers is a major step up the ladder
from that . Next he will be telling me my collection of my little ponys are
not scale models of thoroughbreds..
