Toysoldiers in Paris (2 Viewers)

Hello Poppo,

thanks for posting those photos! Great looking pieces many of which I don't recall seeing when I was there. Hopefully this shows a healthy trade in the hobby.

Hello Victor,

you are welcome. It is a shop, so they probably change parts of their items with the time. There are still there some items you showed in your pics, so I integrate them with the new ones.:)

Hello John,

You're looking quite dapper then...:) The displays definitely looked different when I was there last month.
I recognize the Charmy books displayed on the left. Vive le Empereur!

Right, the display is totally different now...Almost no more plate figures anymore. The woman told me that on saturdays you can meet the painters who painted the figures!

Will be in Paris in July and will give it a visit as well. I too visited that one 10+ years ago and indeed it looks like they have changed things. I do remember that the gentleman who was there was heavily smoking cigars in the shop (not good for the inventory)...Not sure if he is still there.

If you have a spare day, and want some history AND toy soldiers, get out of the city and visit Compiegne.

It's a one hour train trip from Gare du Nord, and in the town, next to the Town hall there is a Toy Soldier Museum which has 100,000 toy soldiers on display !!!!

Close by there is the Imperial Palace, transformed and enlarged under Louis XVI, then developed by Napoleon I after the revolution, the Palais de Compiègne experienced its hour of glory thanks to Napoleon III.

The most famous site in the area is The Glade of the Armistice where, in the forest on 11 November 1918, The Armistice was signed putting bringing the First World War to an end. The museum shows a carriage identical to the one used on that day and contains a large number of historic souvenirs of the two World Wars.

We decided to stay in Compiegne overnight because we needed that amount of time just to see these 3 site as well as trying some of the local restaurants :)

I was again at the shop " Au plat d'étain" and took some photos...In my opinion, it is today the best toysoldiers shop in Paris....
