Trainspotting (1 Viewer)

Hi Guys,

Just before Andy and the rest of the gang left for LA he asked me to show all the Treefroggers not attending “The WestCoaster” this year the displays that Gordon has been working on for the show. First up is TRAINSPOTTING.

The story so far... A German Transport Train has been derailed by French partisans. Although successful in their mission an enemy convoy has just appeared on the scene. All hell is breaking loose.

Gordon hand built all of the scenery and the train itself. It took him almost a month to complete.

The train is just one of several projects K&C is working on at present… so watch this space!

Happy Collecting,

Are you saying the train is a "scratch" built piece not a kit?

I can only say WOW! He just keeps getting better every year, but believe me, very few collectors can afford a diorama that took Gordon a month to build. My guess is that train dio sells for north of $10,000 . . .

Louis,

Oh No ! Not Limited Edition $10K Train Sets handmade with clear engine controls from the PI

Just kindding :p

Great diorama - we are starting to get use to be amazed time and time again from Gordon - what a terrific job.

You know there are a couple of German companies that make brass DR locomotives and wagons in No1 scale (1/32 or True Standard Scale) from the 1930s. I have looked at these a couple of times at the Nurenberg Toy Show, and I am sure a short search on the web will bring these up. I have been tempted to buy them myself...
These are fully operational locomotives with reversing headlights, syncronized sound and in some case smoke. The prices are anywhere from about $1000.00 for a yard engine (switcher) to large freight and passenger mainline locomotives at highter prices. These are incredibly detailed scale models right down to the data plates and proper wartime markings. If you are really interested in scale model railroads and scenery you should consider stopping by one of your local hobby shops and picking up any one of the model railroad magazines. Although Model Railroad Craftsman and Model Railroader are the easiest to find, two of my favorites are Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette and Mainline Modeler.

What is the train made of and would we buy a limited edition resin engine and tender with add on cars ,ever so often?...Would this question be worth a poll? I would lay out the cash for the train...Michael

I'm sure there's a decent market for military train pieces based on earlier discussions on this forum and the extinct toy soldier forum. The images that I and others posted of train dioramas ranging from the large 1/6 scale down to N gauge also generated some interest.

In fact, based on the comments and polls done at the time it appeared that trains may be more popular than Warbirds noting that less than 50% wanted to see Warbirds again. Which I guess is partly why the Warbird range is made in limited numbers.

I don't think it would matter to much what material the train etc are made from. The numbers produced and pricing would be more of an issue imo.

Trains is what we need to complete the lot! Steam engines, flatbed wagons, Compeigne wagons etc...

Logistics eveywhere!

JP

When these dioramas are sold are the vehicles and figures included?

If you can afford a dio like this (probably in the $10,000 area and probably up), the cost of the figures shouldn't be a concern :)

Diorama sold to collector from Denver who bought the BOB winter one at the Chicago Show. I understand he paid $6,000 for it and Gordon would only grin when asked if "figures included.":)
