I became a member of the forum in October 2007, and have been a loyal frogger since then....well I did think I was gonna have to call it quits one time (glad I came to my senses) and I always look forward to jumping on the computer to find all the latest news and gossip going on, just was wondering what is was like at the beginning???? when there was only 50-100 members?? sounds wierd huh?? could you imagine only a few members on the forum?? I have gone back and read alot of the old topics and it's a laugh to read Andy and Johngamble disagreeing or Brad getting on Harryhied about something really love the price releases...brand new Puma for only 89.00 or something like that, if I only had those prices today,so what was it like?? feel free to respond Shannon and Pete as well, were you thinking by 2010 your membership would be closing in on 2,000 members, look forward to some responses...Sammy

Being here at the beginning was something special and unique. Passing 100 members was an exciting moment. This Forum only became relevant when Andy joined and that was only because Louis joined. It didn't take much convincing on my part to get Louis to join.

I became the moderator only because Shannon noticed that I was on all the time. She and Pete were going for a couple of weeks and asked me if I wouldn't mind watching things. I said sure, what do I do? Just make sure people play nice, or something like that. That's how it all got started. It was pretty much fun almost all the time and learned quite a bit about toy soldiers, people and myself. Great experience and glad I could help implement Shannon's vision.

Yo Troopers, have to second the Surgeon Generals comments, only downer is made so many friends, but due to the old mobility problems these days never got to meet them. OK we have the odd disagreements now and again and lose our cool, but the Regimental Sarnt Major (Peter) is always there to give the jankers out lol. But I never hold a grudge life is to short for that. Thanks to Shannon and Peter for making it such a part of everyday life, its more like a club to me than just a forum.

Hi guys,

Really interesting question from Sammy, I remember when Shannon asked me to consider joining the forum because it was during a phone order for a set of Imperial Lancers that I had to have. It was really intriging to me that such a place would even exsist because it seemed to me that TS Collectors are few and far between. Now I look at this forum and am amazed by the numbers of folks who have joined here. In April of 05 I would have never guessed that I would be joining a group on the web that were all collectors of Toy Soldiers and history buffs who would have so many interesting and sometimes heated discussions. Funny to think that so many folks used to say history was boring. Hardly if you read through some of our more heated discussions on topics as wide and varried as Custer and his place in history to the Crusades.
The rest is history of course but it has been an interesting ride and I hope it continues for a long while to come.

As a relatively new member of the forum I must say I did not know what to expect but, it has lived upto expectations with some great banter and even when opines differ its always enthrawling and, a great place to share ideas pertinent and bizarre. It makes the hobby all the more interesting and, its all done in a very gentlemanly manner. Well almost always!!!
A big thank you to the hosts for bringing a toy soldier show to each of our homes daily.

Sammy's post brought back a lot of memories, I joined pretty early and really enjoy this place. Have made many friends and got to know a lot of people and share the hobby. The forum has shown me some real characters and given me some real laughs. There has been heated debate and some arguments too, its a great place to be and whenever I'm home I'm logged in.

I too remember Johns wanted lists, they were as famous as they were regular (is John coming back by the way???) I also remember Andy trying to point out that he can't make everything at once!

As well as the great people on here the interaction with my favourite Toy Soldier company is just superb, Andy's contribution and the monthly Dispatches are always good to read and help me plan my collecting strategy.

A big thanks to Shannon, Pete , Brad and all the current Mods.

What I do remember is that I had started collecting the year before my joining or something, so it was something of a learning curve... Very nice, addictive, great resource and last but not least, great place to find fellow collectors and discuss toy soldiers, but also History, Sport, etc.... Worldwide communication made easy (unless you get too serious and angry).
Great experience, thanks to all that have been providing it through the years...

I remember stumbling across the forum quite by accident as I was hunting for an old dealer friend. Never found him but I got addicted to the forum, which I haunted for a year before finally joining. Wish I had joined earlier but I had really enjoyed the experience of just reading and learning. I was also surprised at the breadth of the collecting community as I thought it rather limited. It was great to learn that there were many other TS collecters with so many interests. It has been great having like minded people to converse with and share knowledge and experiences. Never would have had the chance otherwise as I don't get around and had never known more than 2 or 3 other collecters. It is now the highlight of my days. I don't know what that says about me, but thank all of you. -- Al
