For you guys who have been doing your model trains displays and you diorama experts - move over I have joined the ranks !

I HAVE MADE TREES ! :D

Usually I just buy the pre-made ones in the hobby store and go right to building my display - but, I was talked into doing some on my own. So, Today - I MADE TREES for my King & Country guys.

Now I know its not that exciting for most of you - but, this is a big step for me in the diorama building experience. The pictures below are the second stage of my tree construction - glue on tree branches first, then tree mix on tacky glue to make the base of the tree - next will be a little craft glue / water mix to add more and secure tree mix.

I can now enjoy make the perfect tree for each spot in the curio cabinet and design the scenes even more closely.

Anyway - thought I would share this with you.

Ron

Good for you. Very impressive. Should work well with your Jenkins dios too.
How do you get the leaf system to work? That looks like the challenging part to me:) Now you just need to show us how to make money grow on them:D

With a 3.5 Trillion Dollar Budget - that won't be hard to show in Washington, DC !

On the leaves you put the glue on the branches first - let set - then compress the leave/tree mix on top of the glued branches and they stick. The third stage is the real tricky one - when I have to brush on a glue/water mix to hold those leaves on those tree !

Having Fun - isn't this what it is all about ? :D

Awesome Ron, just a little tip. If you bend thos branches on the trees it will give you a more three dimensional tree. Doing a fine job and looking forward to seeing more of your dios.

Yea - I thought about that after the first eight were done.

But, for what I am working on now - these will work great in the back of the display against the mirror wall. I will take your advice on the next set that will be made ! ;)

Very nice trees Ron,

FOR REAL:cool:

I completely understand the way you mean they will fit against the mirrors in the back of the cabinet. It will save you a little room for some more soldiers.

I'm in desperate need of trees, how tall are they and who made the product?

Michael

Very nice, Ron,
congratulations to the newly discovered skills!
Enjoy the "manufacturing" and please let us see the "woods" how they look together with a variety of figures.
I was looking at the woodland scenics stuff too but did not yet decide wether to use them or not.
Some pictures from you with figures might give me the necessary push.
Konrad

The tree trunks come as a separate package - and are sold in a package of 15. They run from 7 inches to 10 inches in this group. The you buy the tree mix - separate - you have several colors to choose from.

Woodland Scenes (thanks Konrad) - they are the main diorama supplier you find in all hobby shops and train stores.

Looks great Ron! I use woodland scenics trees and materials and have made a few trees myself this way. I did always buy the pre made trees and have some also around yet but making them yourself is fun also you can make different ones and not have 10 same looking trees if you bought them pre made.

Ron is that the clump foliage on those trees?

Yes - great stuff that clump foliage - you can get it in all kinds of colors :D

Ron, what is the cost per tree doing it your way?
Gary

That's the way to go Ron.I really like scenery with the figures and this is much more cheaper way of doing trees.Myself I got a mountain and water diorama kits as I want to do more realistic scenery. My goal is to do a cliff with a waterfall underneath with my Indians looking out from the top of the cliff.Maybe one day I 'll get started.

People assume military miniature collectors must be nerds but clearly capitolron has bucked that stereotype because he's got B@$h. Sorry couldn't resist.

Gary

Not really sure - you have to take in the upfront costs of the glue, tree mix - then the Tree Frames themselves.

If I were to guess ? probally around $4.00 USD per Tree - 7 inch to 10 inch tree - which is a really good price for how much those guys go for already made.

Ron

Well done-excellent effort

However, check the botanist's books to ensure they are indeed "French" trees? :D
