I thought I would share this picture. The set is WA68E (Eagle Bearer - Lancers of Berg) however the box is marked MK1 flag. I got this from TofT around 2005. I had seen this type of flag in the 1998 ToW catalogue but never on any web sites or in any shops. Does anyone know the story behind this particular flag design?
Cheers,
~Dan

Hi Dan

I've had a look in a couple of catalogues and can't find any reference to the flag but the set descriptions vary slightly:

MKL catalogue from the late 1990's

WA68E - EAGLE BEARER LANCERS OF BERG

TROPHY CATALOGUE FROM 2003

WA68E - EAGLE BEARER MARECHAL-DES-LOGIS-CHEF on a galloping horse

Cheers

Martyn:)

Thanks Martyn! The 1998 catalogue doesn't reference the flag anywhere in print however the figure in the picture is carrying this type of flag. I had asked Mike at TofT about it and he turned up a couple of figures. The "Mk1" was a hand written addition to the set number on the box. I figure Trophy must have done a run of these flags and wanted to find out when they did so and when/why they switched to the straight tri-color, if indeed it was a switch. Perhaps this type of flag is an anomaly.
Cheers,
~Dan

Hi Dan

Here is a similar picture of the set from the MKL catalogue

That pattern of flag was the first type used by the French army pre 1812. Perhaps that's what was meant by "mk 1"

Cheers! That makes sense. Any thoughts on when Trophy was putting that particular flag out? I've attached a shot from the 1998 catalogue that depicts this type of flag.

I have a large Frontline Figures Napoleonic collection of about 500 figures. There are ten French flags from both foot and mounted regiments; nine of the ten flags are this style. What I like about them is that the white flag field has the regiment's specific information printed in gold in the field. For example, "Garde Imperiale L'Empereur Des Francais Au 1er Regiment Des Chasseurs A Pied" is written on seven lines. The reverse field says "Valeur et Discipline."

Dan,

thats the 1804 -1812 design flag, and would fit in with the period of the Lancers of Berg, up until the fateful Invasion of Russia in 1812.
