Does anyone recall what the original prices were, on release, of the two Nile River steamboats that Trophy issued. There are both large and smaller versions.

There are one of each available on eBay in August 2016 with the large version listed at $3,999.99 The Victoria (18 figures) and the smaller one lists st $2,199.99 (15 figures). Both are well beyond my budget, but they are nice to look at nevertheless. The seller, an outfit called Champs and Bums, also has a two elephant artillery team for India going for $1,199.99 which is also in Never Never Land as far as I'm concerned. Do these prices seem grossly inflated? I notice that this seller is always priced higher than anyone else especially when compared to recent auction results such as the Old Toy Soldier auction.

Are you looking to purchase one or just trying to price the one you may have? I have seen them sell on eBay (although not in the last couple of years) for somewhere between $700 and $1,000.

I'm sure Martyn (GICOP) will have the original prices.

I'm more curious than anything else. I ended up buying the Britains gunboat and one is probably enough for my collection.

Also, I hadn't bought any Trophy figures in twenty years up to a few months ago and I'm still trying to assess what are fair prices and what are overpriced items.

I don't have the Britains one but I know it's a great model. Little Legion also make some great gunboats at a fair price. Have you looked at their site? I believe Martyn has one from Little Legion or British Toy Soldier Company.

The small Nile River launch was originally priced at £150, the large Paddle Steamer was listed with a "POA" Price on Application note, I believe the price was between £800 - £1200. I have the Britain's boat along with a very special Nile Paddle Steamer produced by Patrick Adams of the British Toy Soldier Co. Little Legion no longer make the large Paddle steam by they do produce a great version of the smaller launch at a very sensible price:wink2: The Trophy Arab dhow had a retail price of £125, these very rarely turn up for sale, unfortunately Little Legion have also sold all the stock of their dhow and don't look like they will be producing any in the near future

Thank you for the information Martyn. It is interesting to see how much they have appreciated, although to my way of thinking, the value is mostly in the miniatures as one could commission the construction of similar boats of comparable quality at a substantially lower price.

The other consideration, of course, is where to store and display the boat. That larger paddle wheel boat is huge. You can still find the Britains model on the Internet at prices ranging from $900 to $1,500.

Jim

PS. Do you also have original prices on the various Indian elephant drawn artillery?

Happy to help Jim :salute::

Which Elephant sets were you interested in, there were sets produced for the Indian Mutiny and NWF/Afghan War series.

I paid a wee bit more for my Siege Gun and PW 1 Elephant but they were worth every penny. My PW1 came from Australia through a very circuitous route but that's a story for another day!
