It strikes me that I have either missed mention of or no one has posted about two African continent based war movies that I found highly entertaining. "The Wild Geese" with Burton, Harris, Kruger and "Tears of the Sun" with Bruce Willis. Anyone else like these shows besides me? -- Al

The wild geese was a great film however, I just could not get into tears of the sun and recently flicked through my DVD's put it on again and still did not think much of it.

The Wild Geese is a good film but not seen Tears of the Sun

Probably the best movie based on the continent has to be Black Hawk Down. truly amazing!!!

The "Wild Geese" and "Game for Vultures" were Rhodesian "propaganda movies" of the 1970's. Both are great movies and are available on DVD. They managed to sober Richard Burton up long enough for the WIld Geese. The uniforms were all Rhodesian army camo.
I would not be surprised if financing was linked to either the Rhodesian or South African governments of the time. Both movies were very popular in SA at the time.
Not trying to knock these two movies which i have and enjoy but just to raise some of the background to the films. Obviously the white governments of the time were keen to portray the African resistance movements in as bad a light as possible.

The Wild Geese is a great film, I also liked Tears of the Sun;)

I'd like top add "Dark of the Sun", also known as "The Mercenaries"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062863/

I'll have to see if I can check out "Game for Vultures" again Damian, it's been years since I've seen it and it has a very interesting cast not least Richard "Shaft" Rowntree

Cheers

I vote for an obscure Canadian made film about the Vietnam War. Gunny the ex-marine drill sgt. from Full Metal Jacket was in it. Called Seige of Firebase Gloria..a non stop action and special effects movie with a touch of adequate acting skills and told from the Viet Cong also..through the eyes of their commander.. Hey ,wait a minute..kinda like They were Soldiers but some 15 years earlier in production. Michael

I saw this movie many moons ago and liked it. Had some good action. I remember that Wings Hauser was the star (at least I think he was). -- Al

Another good action movie. Had Rod Taylor and Jim Brown and took place on a train if my recollection is correct. -- Al

Lee Ermey was excellent ,as his post war career as a therapist,,"incident At Muc Wa",,captures the look and feel of Vietnam during the early war years,,amusing that possibly Burt Reynolds almost first film,,"operation CIA" in blk and white, also captures the same feel,,unfortunatly black and white is never popular with the masses or children,,a lot like real special effects compared to the absurd strobe light special whatever they are in most film these days,,a half second scene seems interesting to some rather then a lingering detailed one,,imagine the car chase in Bullet being redone today, besides using toyotas it would be vertigo inducing.
