USMC AAV Sinks off San Clemente Island (1 Viewer)

Read about that but still nothing regarding the cause. Tragic loss of maybe 9 Marines. USMC was going to replace the AAV with a new vehicle but $15M per unit was too much for what's basically a landing barge. Chris

It was always an interesting ride at first. When we would roll off the mother LST our AmTracks (AAV's) would temporarily sink before they became buoyant and bobbed to the surface. Certainly gave me pause for thought . . .

Do the Marines wear life jackets? Wondering since half of the team are missing.

I don't know about now but we never did . . . Wouldn't have been possible with our combat gear on.

Thanks Mike. I read they found the AAV about 385' down with some of the Marines inside. Prayers for the families. Chris
