Another great hollywood idea:mad:
Tom Cruise, one of Scientology's best-known adherents, is to play Col. Claus Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg the aristocratic army officer executed after a failed attempt to assassinate Hitler in 1944 in director Bryan Singer's new film "Valkyrie."

I saw that on the news aswell ,The germans wont let them use
any govournment sites etc in Germany for locations as they regard
scientoligy as a cult.

Hard to imagine Cruise in that role. For one thing, Stauffenberg was very tall.....

Maybe Tom will cut off his arm and poke out his eye to prep for the role;)

So the critics main beef is it won't be a war movie with a sappy romantic angle tied into it, but instead a slam bang action movie that appeals to an over 30 male only crowd?

Hi Guys,

I too read the ‘hatchet job’ that FOX NEWS did on TC’s upcoming ‘VALKYRIE’ movie… I then checked out the movie’s website and took a peek at the trailer. Well it all looked pretty good from where I was sitting… Now as to the fact that TC is, like myself, vertically challenged.. so what! Peter O’Toole was well over 6 feet tall and he played another vertically challenged legend – Lawrence of Arabia ( 5 feet 5inches in his underwear) and that was one helluva epic.

I think the media everywhere love to build you up so they can drag you down at a later date. Good luck to Tom… good luck to ‘VALKYRIE’ and let’s hope for more decent war movies… not less.

Best wishes to one and all war movie buffs from your man in the cheap seats…

Andy C.

P.S. – My top ten… in no special order…
ZULU… THE DAMBUSTERS… ICE COLD IN ALEX… THE HILL… SAVING PVT. RYAN… BAND OF BROTHERS… THEY WERE EXPENDABLE… GALLIPOLI… THE GREAT ESCAPE… THE DUELLISTS… DUNKIRK… A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT… OH WHAT A LOVELY WAR… THE BLUE MAX… A HILL IN KOREA… SEA OF SAND… Ok so that’s a lot more than ten… so what!!!

Love ‘n’ kisses
Andy C.

If we can put up with some of the tripe Holywood throw at us i can deal with Tom Cruise, plus the sight of him in any uniform will probably have my wife dragging me to the Cinema!

Some cool choices in your list there Andy, along with many classics two films that are very much overlooked i think.'Sea of Sand' and 'Dunkirk' both excellant films in my view.

I heard that the release date is being postponed till 2009 now. I wonder why although I am sure it is due to marketing, etc. Hopefully, it will be worth the wait!

According to that report they are going to release an over 30 male audience only film on Valentines Day:eek: Now that'll work:rolleyes:

Re:

I saw an advertisement for this film on TV recently. It looks fairly decent. The critics are going to hate it though and the x-mas release date equates to a big bomb - no pun intended. http://valkyrie.unitedartists.com/

A lot of people down TC but they overlook one thing about him.He makes GOOD movies.

He has made a lot of good movies and actually shown some acting skill. Then there are some that grate on me like the last MI and the mega RT, WoTW. But then most other actors have their good and bad moments.

It looks awful. I especially like how they have maintained Toms haircut. Like that's a trademark.

I think I'll pass on this one. The Tom Cruise haircut in a WWII German officers uniform. LMAO...

I am not sure I follow; from Combat's photos it looks like his haircut matches pretty well.

A little confused myself as I read somewhere that McQuarrie the producer/writer initially brought it to the Cruiser's attention because of his uncanny likeness to the profile of Colonel Stauffenberg. Looks spot on to me plus the haircut!

When I first heard some months back about this movie and TC's role, I thought it was great casting. As far as his religon goes, if I didnt watch a movie because I disagreed with an actors religon or politics, I wouldn't get to see many movies.

I think it looks pretty good, Mark IV's, hanomags, kubelwagons, 222 A/C's, etc, etc. When was the last time a war movie hit the theaters, I'm in....................
