Valkyrie (1 Viewer)

I am looking forward to this. Cruise puts out good movies most of the time and from the previews this looks to be done well.

History channel has a good two hour special running about the assasination attempt and the movie. Looks like a well done movie.

I wonder how historically accurate the movie is. I realize that most movies take some liberties to move the plot along. Does anyone know how historically accurate the movie is?

I don't think anyone has seen it yet. It comes out in late Dec. It is looking better and better to me. My concern is they are making this a bit like "Mission Impossible IV" or portraying the conspirators as heroic figures which seems debatable. At best they were trying to save Germany from total defeat at the end, but were complicit with Hitler when things were going well. I always take with a grain of salt the stories about various plans to kill Hitler during the war that never went anywhere - like Speer's story that he was planning to use poison gas in Hitler's bunker. Mostly efforts to cover themselves after the war.

Almost time. I thought this would be a bomb, but not sure now. They have done a lot of advertising.

IMHO the selling of the "good Nazi" to the U.S. audience is going to be tough. Casting Cruise is the obvious way to do it. Lets just hope they do not comprimise all the historical accuracy in the attempt to sell the movie to the viewers. I would like to see it, depending on what the reviews say. -- lancer

Why has Hollywood done such a limited release with this movie. It is only playing on ONE SCREEN at theaters and we have to suffer with other trash that takes up TWO SCREENS !!

You would think with an Actor like TOM CRUISE and the amount of promotion that has been $$$$$ spent - it would have been a larger release?

I think, off the reviews, that this is a film I would like to see. I think the "good Nazi" thing is the reason for the limited number of screens. Maybe the numbers will go up if the crowds come in. Also want to see Clint kick butt when it opens near me. -- lancer

Well I must say I was awfully impressed with this picture. Just got back from the late show moments ago. Despite knowledge of the inevitable outcome, this was gripping drama. I don't think I moved an inch in 2 hours, which in hindsight seemed to pass very quickly. Very nice to look at. Even old Tom Cruise did not disappoint in my opinion and that makes three projects in a row from him I've really enjoyed (previously in Lions for Lambs and Tropic Thunder). Some other old favorites appearing were Tom Wilkinson, Bill Nighy, and Kenneth Branagh. Highly recommended.

Tom Cruise takes a sometimes well deserved bashing for his public life but he has entertained the public for some time and I'm hoping this movie is a winner. The TV ads have been going strong for a month. I just might take myself to see it!

Hey dudes:

I checked this film out last night and I would have to agree with Mister Dave's review. I thought the acting was well done by all film members. It was a little different version then what I was taught in high school but a great film none the less. If you do like this film I would also recommend a HBO Film called Conspiracy. Kenneth Branagh plays a wicked good Heydrich. You might be able to get it via Netflix.

Great tip!
Consipracy is probably the best of it kind I've ever seen; even my wife watched it to the end with me. Frankly, it's chilling a real must see.

Caught the movie Christmas day in Daytona to a packed house-gripping drama- at the end of the movie no-one in the audience moved or spoke for what seemed a long long time. Have not experienced that since SPR.

I cannot fault the movie except that the script/director assumed the audience would know who all the conspirators were and the roles they played in the plot. i.e. they did not flesh out a number of the main players. But that is just pure pedantry, this is a very good film and highly recommended.

Saw this today - a big thumbs up. This movie is very well done from the writing to the acting to the sets and uniforms. I am not a July 20 expert but this show went along pretty well with the facts as I remember them with little artistic license that I could I.D. Tom Cruise does a relly good job with a very low key interpretation of his character. The scenes in Berlin as the coup seems to be suceeding then slowly collapses are nail biting. If you are a military film buff and pass on this because of Cruise, you"ll be sorry. Well done movie. -- lancer
