The M3 Grant used by the British had a crew of 6 but the M3 Lee used by the Americans had the extra MG cupola on top and actually had a crew of 7. Here is a photo of a full Lee crew.

Terry

terry, any idea why they need so many in a tank?

The crew of a Grant consisted of Commander in turret left rear, 37mm gunner in turret left rear, 37mm loader in turret right center, 75mm gunner in hull right front, 75mm loader in hull right center, Driver in hull front center, Radio operator in hull center.

The British Lee version eliminated the radio operator position - the turret of the Lee had a bustle at the rear to house the radio and was operated by the tank commander. The US Army eventually eliminated the full time radio operator assigning the radio to the driver.

I have an OOB for Kharkov '42 but not Kharkov '43. Is there anything in particular you are looking for?
Well per this discussion, I was curious as to what types and numbers of AFVs were involved in each. I assume the later battle featured more Panthers and Tigers on the German side etc.

Kharkov was in Feb/March '43. Tigers yes, Panthers no. Other new equipment on the battlefield would be the StuGIIIG & iirc, SU-122

For Kharkov May '42, the usual fare plus Matilda's & iirc Valentines
