This is another project I will be starting soon, a Victorian 4-wheel carriage.

I have never heard of the maker, Historic Carriages, but it looks very much like the Phoenix range.
The carriage is for a fellow local collector who I have done work before, and he found it 'somewhere on the net'.

There were no instructions, so I can only work off photos of real carriages and hopefully work out where all the parts go...... wish me luck !!!

The horses didn't come with the kits, look like Britains hollow cast to me?

Oh, this is a beauty. I assume it’s 1/32 scale? Good luck and keep us posted on progress

Here we go, I have started the assembly this weekend ....

carriage1.jpg
First job is adding the rear spring assemblies and when dry, attaching the rear axle.
While it is turned over the front turntable (brass plate) added too.

Next task is securing the front spring assemblies using BluTack at the correct distance apart then glueing the front axle on.

Next the front wheel turntable assembly has the drawbar attached in front, and spring assembly added then held using BluTack, pliers and plastic prop to hold it steady while glue sets.

Fitting the wheels, without gluing, really makes it look like a carriage now.

Next task will be mudguards, seating and trim, then later the harness and horses will be attached so keep a lookout then.

Today I have added the mudguards which come from the brass etched plates.

Firstly they had to bent into the correct shape and then positions on the body of the carriage marked to be drilled to fit the mounting pins.
Using those marks, a 1mm hole was carefully drilled.

Then the mudguards dry fitted to modify any shaping before trimming the pins and gluing them into position.

Finally the other parts, seats, canopy, and step attached, and the horses, driver and groom posed in position.

My next task will be painting the carriage and figures, then fitting the harness and reins for the horses, so keep on checking.

What primer are you using? Looks like the old Irmie Risley primer. Great stuff for metal but impossible to find now days. Did you fabricate the harness that connects to carriage pinions. Harnessing my worst nightmare Keep your progress coming.
