Pierre,

I generally agree with you, except for your disagreement with CR's statement.

Brad-

As I underligned it, it is simply my opinion, not fact(s). Of course my disagreement is based on my opinion (which is based on facts) and I'm consistent with it :) also, I have absolutely no problems with the opinion to the contrary and I respect that.

Pierre.

If you have that Char B 09 - being offered at $250 - I would take it. This tank is very rare on Ebay and is sought after quite a bit by K&C Collectors.

Although it may not be your price - sometimes it is better to spend the extra $10 - $20 to have the piece you want.

But, in the end it is up to you what your bottom line is and where you will stand on your price. I know this from my position on the WINTER TIGER - I simply won't pay $450 ++++ for that piece.

To each their own !

Ron

Thanks for the advice but as a rough rule I refuse to pay more than 50% more than what a piece originally retailed for. In the FoB009 Char's case, original retail was $90 so I won't pay more than $135 for it. There's just so many other things I can spend my money on.

With no disrespect to any of my fellow collectors. This is just what I feel personally. I have never gone in for the second hand market, mostly becuase at the rate K and C brings out new stuff I have enough of a job keeping up. Generally if an item is popular it tends to get redone witness Hitler staff car, 88 anti-aricraft gun etc. Often the new one looks better than the old one. Still it depends on the individual collector's preferences.

Damian

I can appreciate that and understand your position. I too very rarely will go too beyond the double of a price of a figure or item.

It all depends on if the items is on Ebay alot or not.

I think everyone has to make the decision on what their price is and set that standard. I do wish you Good Luck on finding the FoB 09 at your wanting price.

If i should come across one - I will certainly let you know - as I have for others on this forum for things they want.

Ron

Has anyone ever come across, ghost bidding etc, I'm relatively new to ebay , less than year, can't say I've come across it but then I'm mainly on the lookout for bargins rather than fighting it out for the rare pieces, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't any of it going on at all.

RH, eBay call it 'Shill Bidding', here's their spiel on it:

Shill Bidding is bidding that artificially increases an item’s price or apparent desirability, or bidding by individuals with a level of access to the seller’s item information not available to the general Community. Shill Bidding is prohibited on eBay.

Because family members, roommates and employees of sellers have a level of access to item information which is not available to the general Community, they are not permitted to bid on items offered by the seller – even if their sole intent is to purchase the item. Family members, roommates or employees may purchase items from a seller without violating this policy simply by using purchase options – such as Buy It Now – which do not involve bidding.

eBay strongly encourages sellers with employees to ensure that their employees are aware of this policy and the possible consequences of violation.

Breaches of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

* Listing cancellation
* Limits on account privileges
* Account suspension
* Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings
* Loss of PowerSeller status
* Referral to Law Enforcement

Spend a few minutes taking eBay's tutorial on Shill bidding.

If you believe that another member is artificially raising the price or desirability of an item by shill bidding please report it to eBay. Please be sure to provide the user IDs and the item numbers in question.

Oz,
on another thread regarding ebay claims of fraud being cleaned up I made my opinion known about how it's basically alot of bull.
I have been the victim of this practice twice and it was totally undetected by e-bay. I recognized something odd and was able to research the transaction records of both parties and found the pattern ( not to mention I saw 3 names of members from this forum who had been duped as well). I battled ebay for a week pointing to the peoples stats to bear out my argument, finally the light went on and both were suspended. Another ruse is to outbid you revealing your highest bid, cancel the bid and bid again at just below your highest bid.
Unfortunately, ebay now blocks all information so you cannot investigate such occurances. I am absolutely certain they are getting less fraud complaints. :(:mad::(

Another problem with the new ebay system (and maybe it's not the right thing to do anyway) is that I don't usually bid against people I know. Now, that's impossible.

Right you are! A similar scenario happened to me just last week. I do have a pretty extensive blocked bidder list these days although this occurrence was on a different front. I will still play the eBay game as it is a great sales front-I just do not like the way they are treating the customer-that being us.

I would have thought you kept track of buyers by the color of his/her buyer level and number of positive feedbacks, so even if the ID is removed, you can still figure out the buyer.:D

That I do. All we need now is for someone to break the hidden partial eBay ID Enigma Code! I am surprised someone is not selling the code-breaking software on eBay as I type this. Cheers Steven by the way!

Yes, that's one way but I mean how much time do you have to try to figure out that. I was trying to do that the other day and it took me five minutes to run up against a dead end. So now, I just bid away, since I can't figure it out.

It's not too hard, just enter buyer ID's in the My Community section and you can see the buyer level and net feedback, then use this info to track buyers even if ID hidden since many of the bidders on early K&C stuff are the same group of collectors. I have this info. for friends I do not bid against and those pesky (in a good way) buyers from France who like to bid high prices.:)

There are only a couple of people I don't bid against (although if we do, we have unwritten rules) and the rest is not really a concern.

On a separate matter, I was able to score a couple of the Frontline sets tonight. Don't know if you saw my post in the Frontline section.

I saw your post in the Frontline section, so if you have started on early Frontline, remember to contact the collector I told you about.:)

I have to agree, I like some of ebay's new or proposed changes but making the bidder's names all private is certainly not one of them. It undermines the transparency of the bidding system and reduces my trust in it. It feels like I'm just bidding against a bunch of computer AIs when I see names like a***k or j***h.

I also agree. The new enforced private bidding system isn't working because eBay don't appear to be enforcing things as they said they would and its now impossible for other bidders to check thing on eBay's behalf.

In Australia eBay will soon restrict payment options to just TWO. Paypal (which they own) or COD (Cash On Delivery) :mad:

After reading all these posts; it only confirms my opinions of...... EVIL-BAY Auctions......buyers beware......regards Vezzolf......
