Thought I would start another thread called Vignettes, little dioramas of 1 to 5 figures.
I do a little of figure painting myself, but I can not help admiring and buying a few Russians when I’m flush. I go to some of the figure painting shows and drool. I wish I could paint as well, but I am afraid I am too old now to progress to that level, assuming I could have ever done it.

I was inspired when I went to James Hillestad’s, The Toy Soldier Museum in Paradise Falls
Cresco, PA, with their dioramas. I am pleased to find some of the figure painting shows allowing toy soldiers than have been mounted in displays to be entered into competition. Some day I will enter my dioramas but I don’t think I will ever enter a figure.

The picture is of a Russian Viking that I bought and mounted on a base I made. The stockade
was purchased as separate logs and painted for effect stockade.

Just thought you might like to know I have updated my website. I have spared no expense to do this, well I spent $19.95 on a program, and I think it is an improvement. You may want to take a look at my other Russians.

Hoot,

That is a really fine vignette! In addition to those found on your website, do you have additional vignettes you could share with us? I would love to see them. Your vignettes seem to tell a story without taking up all the room necessary for a good diorama. My compliments for your excellent work!

Warm regards,

Pat

Love the Viking!
New Viking figures are hard to find. Good show! Like the bases too!

Susan Leicht Painting

I had Susan paint some castings that I never got around to painting. I am very pleased with her work. Two larger figures were sculpted by David Grieve in 65mm. Officer Naval Brigade in Sudan. 1884-5. John

Susan's Painting

The painted figures look much better then pics on post. My pics a little too bright. J

Leadman, those figures look great. Susan sure does a great job of making the lines and the features come alive. Someday....Someday I will have the time to get deep into this hobby. Michael

Hi Guys,

I am working on a white metal figure and had a mishap and broke a leg off of the horse. I am trying to find out what is the best glue to use. I dont think the old testors model glue will cut it, some help would be really appreciated.

Dave

Hi Dave:

I would give ZAP-A-GAP CA+ Gap filling formula. It is great stuff.

I purchased a Russian machine gunner and discovered on close inspection

that it had been broken and poorly repaired.

I used the Zap stuff above which repaired the break and filled the gap. After

a little touch up the repair is very near invisible (except of course to me....)

Hope this is helpful, I also like the Tamiya Acrylic paints, they blend nicely

and are easy to work with.

I've used JB Weld for metal. You can buy this at Home Depot or Lowes. I've used this to bond loose muffler hanger for my car at it works very well even under extreme heat. It comes with resin and harderner putty that you need to mix. Join the broken parts and be sure to remove excess and shape it to the form of the figure.

You can also use heavy duty epoxy.

Hi Guys,

I will see about these two suggestions. I hadnt even thought of JB Weld. I will try and find the zap a gap stuff at the local hobby shops before I go with the really messy epoxies which I so love to stick to everything but what I'm trying to glue.

Thanks for the help!

Dave

Dave:

Best of luck! I never had much success with "Super Glue" though I watched

a lot of people use it. The stuff I recommended is easy to use, seals back up

quite well and really did a great job. I didn't even stick my fingers together

once.

Alec:

What do you think? You are certainly among the most skilled, your work

speaks for itself. Simply superb.

I use Super glue gel, i like to be able to use a real small amount and squadron white putty. fill and file to proper shape.
