This series starts tomorrow night on Netflix. It starts about 100 years after Ragnar Lothbrok ( who is now a religious fanatic on planet Keppler 22B in the 22nd century.^&grin^&grin^&grin)

It worries me when the Vikings all look like they are straight out of Hollywood central casting. And they must have had a tremendous dental plan with those pearly white teeth. Lots of good action, though. I wonder if folks of Scandanavian descent will object to the stereotype of their ancestors as prone to violence? Perhaps the Minnesota Football Team next year. LOL.

Watched first episode. I think I'm going to enjoy it.

I watched the first couple of episodes. Really like the actor who plays Leif. He has a kind of Jim Morrison-vibe going on. The plot is wildly implausible, though, with some woke drift. It's a bit like Mad Max Thunderdome with the Tina Turner-look alike.

I have watched 4 episodes and like it but have to turn my head here and there. Too many shield maidens. I haven't met that many tough women in all my life.{eek3}

Watched the first two episodes and thought it okay. A bit too woke in some aspects as others here have mentioned. May give it a few more. The ethnic cleansing of the Danes was a reaction to the constant raids by the Vikings despite the large tributes made by the English king. Chris

One of the problems with historical fiction is that it has to be sanitized for modern viewers. They need the viewer to have an emotional investment in the main characters. That means they need to like the protagonists. That is hard to do if they are depicted as they behaved in reality. So you get a lot of stereotypes with a pinch of woke.

You'll have to meet my wife then. {sm4} Chris

Bring on the next series.

Weird coincidence. Binge watched the series over the week end then a business called Valhalla comes to see me about some purchases. Freaky{sm3} However not buying Vikings.

I finished the series last night.Only 8 episodes but they were action packed.Has the feeling of the of first Viking show. Now I have to wait a year for the next episodes. Hope they do 10-12 episodes next year.

I'm about six episodes in. Enjoy the action but grimace at the pagans vs Christians theme. They really beat that one to death.

I agree with you about the christian/pagan conflict. I have never read anything about this so I don't know how violent the split was between them.

It was a big deal. One theory, that has a lot of evidence to back it, is the attack on Lindisfarne was in retaliation for Charlemagne lopping off the heads of 6000 pagan Saxons and defiling their sacred groves and river. Basically, convert or die, and they chose death.

Unlike the show, Vikings and Saxons were cousins, especially the pagan ones.

So, I do think there was animosity. Plus, churches provided relatively easy targets with above average wealth.

Despite it's lurid scenes and silliness, it was a great series.
Long may it go on - it's still better than most TV!

Season 2 starts here on Thursday, the 12th on Netflix.
