Hi -

After Kilted Vampire asked me to post some photos of my Ideal Atomic Cannon I thought it would be fun to start a vintage toy soldier thread.... So this is the start of it. Below are three shots of my atomic cannon and a few Auburn GIs which seem to go fairly well with the cannon. I wrote an article on the Atomic Cannon for Playset Magazine a few years ago. It's one of those great toys of the 1950's.. my brother had one - and I had a lot of fun with it back in the day.

Enjoy the photos!

Jim

Great piece, how in the world did it not get burned, bent or otherwise mutilated in a massive sandbox battle? I wish I still had my Lionel train with the missile launcher and exploding box cars, well actually they didn't explode but the panels were spring loaded and flew apart when the missile hit them:).

How many do you want??

On another note - some of mine:

Wow!!! That Atomic Cannon brings back very very pleasant memories. I actually had one - I remember the house that we lived in when I got it so it would have been between 1957 and 1959. It was a big beast and a great plaything. Mine survived for quite a while but finally subcomed to being stepped on a few too many times.

A few years later I receivedthe Renwal 1/32nd model of the Atomic Cannon and it was used for many "Gun Of Navarone" scenarios with various toy soldiers.

Oh, the cool toys I went thru "back in the day"! Need to get a time machine and go back and save the toys from myself.

Gary

Very nice! I recognize a few of those cars(grey helicopter:)). I used to attack my brothers Billy Blast-off 3 story space station with my missile launchers:D.

Say, there's a fantasy toy soldier idea, Space Trains:eek:.

Great Major Matt Mason space walker. I found my Laser Canon, Captain (somebody) and the space ship/rocket. last time I was going through stuff at my parents. Unfortunately, my nephew got a hold of the rocket and that was the end of it (Saved the other stuff though). Also, saved my Johnny West and GI Joes, but that's for another thread I guess.

Hey - this thread can be extended to any vintage toys I would think! I'd love to see your Johnny West and GI Joe stuff.

Jim

I've got some of my Joe stuff here in Ottawa, so I'll dig it up, take some photos and post. The Johnny stuff is with my parents in Victoria, so that will have to wait until I go out west again. (I didn't think anybody was interested in the Johnny stuff).

Jim,

Here is some of my GI Joes, some of the items may not match since I've forgotten which uniform they go with. I also have a Base and Tower although not here in Ottawa.

This was my first GI Joe and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
