W.W.1 Toy Soldiers (1 Viewer)

Rob, I will be watching anyone that puts out the French related things I am after. That means JJD, TGM, and FL as well. I am going to always be watching for aircraft, specifically JJD, as I will be buying whatever he comes out with until the room runs out. Also will keep an eye on the TGM aircraft releases as I have been impressed by them but price makes purchase more circumspect. I splurged for the Eindecker TGM did and am thrilled with it but cannot go that deep into the pockets again. Aircraft and French related releases have me committed ( and I will probably need to be over the next few years). -- Al

Yes I can see how recent releases across the board have you reaching for the credit card Al! TGM,JJ and FL all releasing splendid versions. Hard to know where to start sometimes with WW1! I too want more aircraft and a couple of Tanks. What you need now Al is a French 75mm:wink2: They have an excellent display featuring one in the new IWM WW1 gallery, it's placed with a film/animation type clip that shows the effect of a shrapnel shell from a 75mm bursting over men caught in the open........sobering stuff to be sure.

Rob, the lack, so far, of the iconic 75mm gun has me pulling my hair out. SOMEONE has got to do this. JJD, KC, TGM, or FL just have to do one and all are more than capable of doing excellent versions. I would love to see KC do an early war version, with the crew in the early dark blue unis, to go with their outstanding 1914 french infantry. But I will take any WW1 version someone cares to do.^&grin -- Al

Someone will surely do one sooner or later Al, give me one of those and an 18pounder and I'll be a happy bunny. Hopefully by the time the centenary is over in four years time w will have all the tanks/guns/aircraft we could wish for!:salute::

I have been thinking of making a dio base to display WW1 figs for photographs as my collection grows over the coming years. It suddenly dawned on me that during my break I'd missed a TGM French set featuring kneeling and standing firing released not long ago, mild TS panic set in as it's fast becoming rarer at stockists, big thanks to the good folk here at TF who had one:salute::

I wish to make clear that I am not completely without the French 75mm gun. I own two versions, both in gloss. I have the very excellent Britains Premier version with the gun crew in Horizon Blue. The gun is a solid medium gray color. I also have the SoW version with the crew in the early war dark blue unis. The gun is a darker gray. Both versions have full crews and ammo caissons and are superb but I need versions to go with my matte figures. -- Al

William Britains produced in 2003 a WWI French 75mm Gun (camo painted) with Limber and 4-man crew in their Premier Series. Cat# 41025. It is a beautiful piece and manned by a US Marine Detachment (see attached photo). Earlier in 1997, under the same series, they produced two like-in-kind sets, but gun and limber are in standard grey color (not camo), and manned with a French crew # 8937 & US Marines crew # 8936. Hopefully, they will produce one in matte finish for their present WWI series.

Hi Lancer,
I may have an answer to your quest...hence...save some hair {sm4}{sm4}...International Toy Soldier Company - from New Zealand - they have not only 75s as many as you can take, but also the ammo limbers that are hard to find....then to really make you happy....you can have the gun garrison on dark blue continental army uniform ( regular French Artillery uniform all the way up to WW1 ), French Foreign Legion, or the later WW1 sky blue uniform with or without gas masks.....
Guess I got you out of the deadlock ^&grin^&grin^&grin.....See some of mine....
Cheers

Thanks for the information, my friend. Saving hair is always preferred. You have a very impressive collection of big guns, especially all those different 75's. I actually do own a 75mm gun and limber set from Soldiers of the World (Regal of New Zealand), with the early war French uniforms. It is an excellent set. A also have a Premier Britains French 75, which is very nice. -- Al

When I think of WW1 TAW automatically comes to my mind....{sm4}{sm4} it is a pitty that Toy Army Workshop has gone out of business and no one picked up from where it left.....{sm2}{sm2}

Agreed . . . other than the painting (which left something to be desired), TAW produced some fine pieces. Fortunately, I have a number of their vehicles which I bought unfinished and painted. Does anyone know if someone purchased the molds? My recollection is that an Aussie or Kiwi did, but I'm not sure.
