War and Peace 2016 (1 Viewer)

I think the iplayer online is only available in the UK.

you have to get a service like Tunnel Bear - it sets your IP to a different country. You can set it to the UK and then use the BBC iplayer.
I use it to watch shows about the British monarchy - for whatever reason our networks in the USA don't think people want to watch that stuff

Yes, the 18th on Lifetime, A & E and The History Channel if I am not mistaken.

So no spoilers until then as I don't want to know anything about how Borodino and Napoleons invasion of Russia turns out....................

Haha! well played! {sm4}

Caught episode 1 last night.

Uniforms seemed ok, tactics not so much. That said, the small battle they showed looked ten times better than anything I saw in any of the Sharpe episodes, so it's got that going for it, which is nice.

How they depict Borodino will be the real test.............

Only 2 things in the era interest me; Trafalgar and Waterloo, both for reading about. -- Al

The naval war interests me more.I do have a interest in the Peninsular war but haven't read much about it.

I do like the "Retreat from Moscow" figures from FL and Manes Marzano.

Al,
Do you have the two companion books for those battles, they are outstanding, there is also one for Gettysburg. For Gettysburg and Waterloo, they are my two go to books, my bibles on the subjects if you will................

George, I have to admit that I have neither the Waterloo nor Trafalgar Companion Books. I have meant to get them but something always seems to come up. I have the Gettysburg book, which I love, and the Western Front book, which is ok. The 2 Nap books are still on my 'get' list. -- Al

George, just checked prices on the 2 Nap books. Looks like Trafalgar is way out of my price range, but Waterloo is still in the running.:wink2: -- Al

There's more to the age than fighting. I liked the opening installment.

I'm about half way through Cromwell's Waterloo. Knowing almost nothing about the battle, the book is a little confusing, plus I keep falling asleep every 3-pages. Of interest though, Blucher is 74-years old at the battle and was in a cavalry charge, got knocked down and rescued. Talk about a tough guy. Both Waterloo and Gettysburg companion books sound good to have. I've been to Gettysburg around 5-times and that companion book would certainly increase my knowledge of the battle.

Looks like the Trafalgar one is out of print, which explains the disparity in cost (120 vs 50).

The Waterloo one is worth every penny; 50.00 is a steal if that's what it is going for, I paid 75.00 for it and glad I bought it when I did, if I've glanced through it once, I've done so 100 times, that one and the Gettysburg one actually.

His maps are spectacular too...........

You'll be amazed at the Marine artwork in the Trafalgar book. There must be a colour plate of every ship involved on both sides of the battle.
