Does anyone know of a nice simple war computer game that someone like myself can play without Bill Gates sitting next to me to help.

What do you prefer FPS or RTS. FPS is fisrt person shooter which you are a single soldier in first person. RTS is real time strategy which you command an entire army.

Hi Gary the X-Box system is terrific, here are some of my favorite military games.
1. Men of Valor- Vietnam Era
2. Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30-WWII
3. Medal of Honor Frontline-WWII
4. Medal of Honor European Assault-WWII

Any of these will provide you with many hours of fun, and lack of sleep!
Also if you like the X-Box system there is a new one in the works coming out in the future with even better graphics (which seems impossible) the graphics in these games makes you feel like ducking.

Call of duty - first person shooter (best game ever in my opinion)

as said brothers in arms- first person shooter

squad assault westfront - rts (though you can pause at any time) that replays all the battles on the normandy front from both the German or allied side.

I,ve played every ww2 shooter out there, and the best by far is a fps called day of defeat. It is a modification of the game halflife, so they use the same powerful engine with a ww2 theme (normandy battles). Check it out at www.steampowered.com. Available only for pc, the game uses all the same keys as bf1942, call of duty and metal of honor.

I don't think the xbox or ps2 games can hold a candle to the pc games. For these I recommend the granddaddy and still one of my favorites, Medal of Honor Allied Assault. All the Medal of Honor PC games are great. However, the Call of Duty games on PC are better or just as good. Coming for the new xbox, 360, will be Call of Duty and that's supposed to be good.
 
Gary(retired policeman,still working though) + first person shooter games X number of sleepless nights playing = either divorce or going to jail for shooting someone for just asking directions.
You do the math Gary.Just kidding but if you start playing any of these suggestions you will be adding another addiction to your lifestyle...I have spent a number of hours playing video soldier and the games now are getting so realistic that, like Njja said, you will find yourself ducking bullets.

This is a different type of computer game than most that have been mentioned but I love any of the Civilization games and own them all. You choose your country, build your army and take over the world! They also have specific scenarios you can play that re-enact historic battles in different eras. Each civilization has its own specialized soldier or weapon that only it can produce and you begin primitively with spearmen and work up to atomic bombs (although using an atomic bomb can just about assure every other country will immediately declare war on you.)

I shouldn't have mentioned it--now I want to go play Civ instead of doing my work...

Must...keep...working...
 
Hmmmmm, and just how would you know use of an atomic bomb would cause the other nations to declair war on you?
Have you been trying to take over the known world, while posing as an innocent toy soldier purveyor???

If you like civilization, you should play "The day after". It's a strategy game, which combines action movements on a neat map with some sort of strategic map, where you have to move your units on to a next battle. It tells the story of the Cuban missile crisis : what happens when the US declares war to the USSR? With a world scale nuclear conflict as the consequences for such foolishness!
 
Hi All.

I got so absorbed by Medal of Honor during the Normandy Beach landing I too found myself ducking. They are a lot of fun and time absorbing so if you dont want to make your wife really mad I suggest staying away from these really addicting games. ;)

Dave,

Are you referring to Allied Assault. The most challenging level was when you had to escort the tank crew to safety. I can't tell you how many times it took me and my son to win that. He's a big believer in cheats but they didn't do him any good then.

Yes that was a really wild run thru that town trying to get the tank crew to the tank. I found the beach landing to be really wild as you well know. I found myself ducking when the bullets or shells hit real close. How about the dogs in some of those levels! I have never seen a dog that was practically armor plated like these were up close, I got so I tried to nail them with the sniper rifle at max range even if it gave me away to the soldiers.

I just picked up the expansion pack Break Through but havent been able to play it because of a problem with my speakers. Have you played it?

I just played Call of Duty II demo and my heart is still pounding. :eek: Its a big download (686Mb) but it shouldn't be to bad if you have broadband. Looks like the 8th army against some Afrika Korps in El Daba. Not for the weak hearted.
 
A good WW2 game i enjoy playing is called Codename Panzers. It's a real time strategy game. These types of games can seem a bit complicated at first but once you get the hang they are great.

In this game you play a German, Russian and US tank officer as the storyline progresses from the invasion of Poland through to the end of the war taking in most of the major battles along the way. There's a fantastic array of vehicles, tanks and artillery on offer.

I've played Break Through and it is pretty cool. Too bad it didn't work for you.

I'd like to play Call of Duty II but I don't think our computer could handle it. I'll probably wait for the Xbox version in December.
 
We toy soldier collectors have more in common than I ever dreamed of. I am also a computer gamer and have addiction to PC war games along Microsoft Flight simulator.
I don’t want to know how much I’ve spent on games over the past 22 years much less upgrading my computers.
I will just let that stay in the dark.

Command & Control is a series of game to play keep going up in levels.
 
Yes indeed I do like these games I will be back at it as soon as I figure out which file I need to down load to get them to work again. The Medal of Honor series is a great one so far so I really need to get the computer software figured out.

Yesterday, my son and I went to Game Stop and they had the new Xbox 360 with the Call of Duty II on it and I'm telling you after playing, it's tremendous. The graphics are as good as anything on the PC and the action is tremendous. This particular sequence took place in North Africa and it's not easy but it sure is a lot of fun.
