We have had immortalized in toy soldier figures the many Air War Heroes of WW11
How heroic many of these figures were is questionable. Not to debate the topic at this time, I would call your attention to Geoff Fisken a New Zealander who became the leading Commonwealth Ace in the Pacific theatre.
Sergeant Pilot Fisken Fought mainly in Brewster Buffaloes and P40s.
He spent his post war years as a sheep farmer.
His feats are summarized in an obituary The Sunday NY Times,July 16th
I know a member of Mr. Fisken's family who is a neighbor of mine.
In memory of a true hero, who defines the term most clearly to me.

Not having worn a uniform in combat anyway I would say that IMO anyone who fights in any conflict would be classed as a hero.

I think in the toy soldier world its down to personal preference from the manufacturers who decide what or whom will be portrayed

The word hero has been diluted sadly, by the half heads who see pop stars and footballers et al as heroes!!!!!

WELL SAID MITCH!!
I am from New England and I think that the Pats, Sox, "B's" and Celts are fantastic athletes, …. but Heroes??? I will pay good money to see Tom Hanks in just about anything movie he stars in or makes, but I can’t call him a hero?? ANY singer or Rock / POP star heroes?... I think not.

I suspect that everyone on this forum knows a true hero, and I don’t necessarily mean a soldier, a sailor or an airman. That was pointed out on 9/11.

Still, I go to see my dad’s grave at the Winchendon Veterans' Memorial Cemetery along with the 1000’s of other hereso who are with him now.

I doubt that any toysoldier vendor even attempts to call out any particular person as a hero. They leave that to us to do so in our own special way.

A hero is how a person reacts in a situation! Vince Carter is a ball player who set an example by finishing his degree and setting an example for young people. John Basilone set an example to his young Marines by returning to war and paying the ultimate price. A father who teaches his children character and the mother who sits up with that sick baby or even the other way around they are heros. I went to Iraq at the young age of 45 and was so inspired by our young people. A hero is the one thrust into a situation and the one who wishes they could have done more and they did just fine.
