WB ACW #31051 The Chosen Ground set #1 (1 Viewer)

Well, I went beyond appetite whetted. I bought the Chosen Ground set with flags, the 3rd set, and the 1st corps flagbearer. My wife will thank you, I am sure.

This is to go with a 20-figure display of the 6th Wisconsin in the Cornfield at Antietam, and the Troiani 24th Michigan set + 2 figures I added to it. Now, I just need tributes to the 7th WI and 19th Indiana. I am thinking of making this Chosen Ground group 40 figures strong at some point down the road. Should be tremendous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please convey to your lovely wife that she is welcome :D:p;). I have #31073 and #31074 on pre-order myself - can't wait to get them. Sounds like you will have quite the "Black Hat" display when you are finished. Huzzah for you!

Thanks. I think I bid on one of those once on Ebay but didn't win it. I went to grad school in Madison, WI, so I am partial to the Badger regiments, but I do want the Indiana flag at some point. The 24th Michigan set is one of the nicest looking sets in my whole collection!

Agreed the Michigan set is really nice. I've got a few of the newer Britains figures mixed in with these and they make a nice little group all together. Sort of hoping for more stationary guys in the future, but not in any rush as I've got my hands rather full with other things at the moment.

In 1999 there was a stand alone retailer special 24th Michigan Regimental flag bearer figure. I think it's quite nice even for an ealier piece. Makes a nice addition to any of the scenes your referring to. Another decent piece that works pretty well is "Fight for the Colors"..I've always loved the background story to it as well. It can usually be found quite cheap and is a great additon to any 6th Wisonsin troops as well as being historically accurate. Lastly, one of the Conte Hand to Hand vignettes (I believe it's #2) works very well as the officer is wearing a Hardee hat. I absolutey love this piece as it was the officer bringing down his sword with a rebel blocking the blow with his rifle. It's really, really detailed and looks great.

I don't have that hand to hand piece - the only one I don't have, but that is a great point about using it with a battle scene!! It could work with the recent Britains limited edition hand-to-hand piece. I do have the Fight for the Colors. I just love visiting the Railroad Cut at Gettysburg. There have been a few Iron Brigade soldiers for a firing line setup. The Conte Antietam Signature series has several lined up at a fence, but they can be removed for other scenes. There have also been some separate Iron Brigade firing sets, as well as Iron Brigade wounded. The firing set is not so easy to find, but I tracked down one a couple of years ago on the Web. I collected Civil War buttons for a while. I have wonderful examples of Wisconsin and Michigan buttons, but alas there was no Indiana in the way of buttons. Maybe one day I will frame those separately and create a large tribute to the Iron Brigade. I also have a shell fired during the 1st day's battle at Gettysburg - from Herr's Ridge - and practically new condition case shot balls from Willoughby Run. Then there are the photos I shot of the Iron Brigade launching the attack at the Cornfield during the Antietam 140th reenactment. You guys are getting me very inspired!!!

Would have to agree with Mike re: this seller. Always top notch service in my experience too.

I received my first set from the Chosen Ground series yesterday, and I must say I have not been more excited about a purchase in a while. A terrific set, and I can't wait to add to it. Well done Britains!!

I just got my chosen Ground set today! I agree it is a beautiful set!

Congratulations to you both for adding this great LE set to your ACW collection. Don't forget to pre-order sets 31073 and #31074 Chosen Ground sets 2 & 3. As good as #31051 looks by itself, can you imagine what all three of these sets will look like together.
:) Mike

Already done. I especially like the 1st Corps flagbearer, and I think adding 3 more horsemen to the staff will be very attractive. I have already started picking up more Iron Brigade advancing/charging figures too. Thanks for the inspiration!! I came close to passing on these sets.

I think Everyone can agree, That the releases can not come fast enough. I can hardly wait to get it all.

Recieved my Chosen Grounds Set #1 as christmas present. This is a great set and I am really happy to own it.
I notice that the infantry men do not have bayonet scabards hanging down from their sides. Is that normal or an omission by the sculpter perhaps?
I have some Britains add on Iron Brigade infatnry and they have them.
Thanks for any info.

Walt
