WB's New WWI Tommies & Downton Abbey (1 Viewer)

Yep, the WW1 figures look superb and are the most welcome addition. My collection will now move away from the AZW on to these pieces. Looking forward to the tanks!! My only gripe is that the current WW1 British infantry do not appear to compliment these new figures.

Great thread..thanks for posting!!. WB have made these figures so good that I almost lost it and decided to start a WWI collection!!,
But sanity must prevail...I shall stay with the ACW Series and admire these figures from a distance!!..But Terrific figures, and not to be missed by anyone who is into WWI.

I know. I wish they would go together better. I have already pre-ordered several sets and am hoping Britains continues to add more poses. I also wish they would do some New mid to late war French.

I did cave in and have preordered all of the upcoming limited edition WWI sets. I would have stayed the course with just collecting ACW, however, I recently inherited all of my Grandfather's photos he took while in France 1917-1919 while serving in Co F, 17th Engineers. His photos and the new WB WWI figures pushed me over the edge.

Well done Mike, I knew after you mentioned your grandfathers photos the other day that you would be ordering them!

Hi Mike...Yeah its often those family links that push us over the edge on making a decision!!!..My Grandfather was in the Royal Horse Artillery in WWI. Unfortunately no photos though. I would really like to have a small WWI collection but KC WWII and WB ACW is all my CC allows at the moment! Enjoy your WWI figures when they arrive, and we will all look forward to seeing you dio"s!!.

Which of the current figures that you mention do not complement these future releases?

The helmets on the new releases are different. I am not sure they wouldn't go together at all, but they do look quite different. I may get some of both anyway.

Maybe it is the time frame of the figures offered and the difference in appearance of the uniforms. The earlier releases were for the opening time period of the war in 1914. The latest offerings are for 1916. There were many changes in the uniforms and equipment as the war progressed over these two years. Even by 1918 there are some more noticeable changes, ie gas mask and carrying bag as one small example. For now I am only collecting the 1916 figures so that there is cohesion.

So Mike, did you get a trench or two, or are you contemplating making your own? I envision getting the shell holes and destroyed trees first but will add a trench before long. Afterall , I cannot have my two with ladders climbing a tree!!{sm2}

The uniforms do look like a lighter shade, but I am thinking this is just the photos as they are all 1916 Somme.

The first delivery of helmets were light green, green or blue-grey. The second delivery were matte khaki paint finished with sand, sawdust or crushed cork to give a dull, non-reflective apperance.

Both were on the same battlefield in 1916.

I'm speaking of those sets released that have the 1916 notation in catalogues and on the WEB site.

Certainly it is possible that there could have been some variation in uniform, especially among veteran soldiers. Either way, I am very excited about this new line!

Dan, I just received this week WB #23021 "8 pound gun with crew", WB #51009 "18 pound gun position/trench", and WB #23015 Vickers gun with crew. I have preordered both the ladder sets, the lewis gun set, and the stretcher bearer set . . . . . trying to pick up all the limited edition sets first. As I can I plan to order both of the new trench sections. In talking with Richard Walker earlier this week, he confirmed that the two new trench sections were designed to fit with the gun position. He also verified that they are all of the same color even though the catalog pictures don't show it. Richard also hinted that there is alot more to come in the WWI range and there are long range plans for its development . . . .

. . . . oh, and the 18 pounder and crew, the gun position, and the vickers section are all top notch . . . . .

:smile2: Mike

Mike thanks for passing along the information confirming trench section use with the gun position and color match. Very nice!
Did Richard say anything about their reeking of cordite, earth and decay like the gun emplacement? ^&grin

No preorder on that one, I think I would have to wait until Mike gave his review.

Must say this new range is brilliant , I already have all of the WB 1914 series inculding the cavalry, and gun and limber , all the ONTC and have been collecting the JJ knights of sky .

I had thought I was putting WW1 on the back burner for a bit , short of the JJ knights but after these pics I pre ordered all of it thru my regular dealer.

Simply amazing as always Richard .
